A Parent’s Review of the Crayola Washable Poster Markers

Seems as if the regular sized drawing paper was being used up way too fast, and the poster boards did the trick. Anyway, I never knew there were specific markers intended for posters. We’ve just been using the regular old Crayola kids markers. When I saw Crayola 4 Ct. Washable Poster Markers in the store, I bought them because I was curious to see if there was truly a difference between the poster markers and the regular markers. The price was not too bad either. We paid 1.99 for the pack of markers, whereas the other packs have been a little more expensive.

All About Crayola 4 Ct. Washable Poster Markers

Crayola 4 Ct. Washable Poster Markers of course comes in a pack of four as stated. The colors are your basic colors of blue, red, green, and black. They are non toxic and said to be washable. They are also a bit different than regular markers because they are double ended. This means that you can use the two ends of the markers to color with. One end has a wide tip. This end of the marker is used for coloring in things. The other end has a very narrow and fine pointed tip. This end of the marker is better used for letter writing or drawing lines. The caps on each end tell you what color each marker is. The caps can be easily pulled off and pushed back on. All markers are approximately 6 1/2 inches long.

Experiences

The biggest difference I have found in the markers is the fine tip. This makes writing letters, drawing lines, and making small shapers much easier. The colors glide on posters smoothly and dry quickly. My daughter didn’t seem to notice any difference at all, but she did love the fact that the markers have two tips to color with instead of the usual one tip. I on the other hand, enjoyed writing letters and drawing shapes much better with the fine tip. The wide tip seems about the same as any other Crayola marker. Even though there are only four markers (making the color choices limited), the markers are unique and making drawing on bigger areas much more convenient. The tips also seem to hold up pretty well, even for a four year. She has a tendency to bear down hard whenever coloring or writing. Both tips have yet to break and run out of color.

One of the biggest complaints I have about Crayola 4 Ct. Washable Poster Markers is the claim that they are “washable”. To be fair, the color does come off of skin easily. Simply applying soap and water and a little elbow grease usually takes care of that. Clothes are a different story. I went in foolishly thinking that no matter what kind of markings got on our clothes, then they could easily be washed off. This is not true. I didn’t worry about the markings my daughter was getting on her clothing, but after I washed them I wish I would have. The first washing faded the markings a little. I immediately washed her outfit over and this time diluted some Clorox bleach, poured it into the washer, then ran hot water on all the stains before washing. This trick took out the majority of the stains but there were still a few left. From then on, my four year old has been wearing older shirts to color in just in case.

Recommended ?

Despite some of the markings not coming out of clothes, I would still recommend this product. The new unique double tips and the easy grip for kids make these markers worth it. Letter writing with a marker has never been easier. I would of course suggest not letting kids wear nice clothes while using the markers on a poster. Markings seem to go everywhere when a little one is working on such a big poster. Other than that, Crayola has made another great product.
