A Review of Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber

One of my most dreaded chores is cleaning the bathroom. Because I hate an off smelling bath, however, I clean it several times a week. I’ve never been a big fan of the Scrubbing Bubbles cleaning foams, but I received my Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber free in the mail, and just finished cleaning my downstairs bathroom with it.

Description

The kit comes with a green foam handle, four cleaning pads, and a storage tub for holding the pads. The pads measure 3 7/8″ by 4 7/8″, and the foam handle is very flexible, with two velcro strips along the bottom sides. To attach the pre-treated cleaning pad, you simply press the handle firmly to the blue side of the pad, and it attaches quite securely. The cleaning side is white, and looks like a cleaning pad about 1/8″ thick. The foam handle is made from extruded foam, low density polyethylene, and is water repellent.

Scrubbing Bubbles, an SC Johnson company, refers to the Action Scrubber as “powerful cleaning in the palm of your hand”. They say it works hard so you don’t have to.

Claims

* One of the pads is supposed to clean an average sized shower and bath tub
* No messy sponges ior spray cleaners necessary
* Cleans without gritty chemicals
* Rinses away easily
* Leaves a bright shine
* Loosens, dissolves, and lifts away soap scum
* Removes two times the amount of soap scum than Tilex Soap Scum Remover

How To Use

Open the package of scrubbing pads, remove one and place the remaining three back in the clear plastic tub. Attach the pad to the foam handle, wet the pad with plain water and scrub to activate the foaming scrubbing bubbles. It helps if surfaces being cleaned are moistened before cleaning. To clean tight spaces you can remove the pad from the foam handle, but wearing rubber gloves are recommended.

After washing the desired areas, you simply rinse the cleaning suds and foam off of the surface, and toss the pad into the garbage. They cannot be flushed down the toilet, and should not be placed back inside the tub.

My Experience

I needed a scissors to cut open the plastic package containing the cleaning pads, and was overwhelmed by the strong odor. Some of the cleaning liquid spilled out of the bag onto my hands, leaving them feeling very oily and strange. I love the foam handle, it’s soft and comfortable to hold, and very easy to grip. I think this would be great for anyone with arthritis in their hands!

The velcro strips hold the cleaning pads on pretty well, but I did find it sliding off while I was applying pressure to my shower walls (and pressure is indeed needed to get satisfactory results.) The cleaning pads aren’t very abrasive, but they do contain some tiny scrubbing fibers, and the cleaner does activate well when the pad is moistened with water.

My shower wasn’t really dirty when I cleaned it, but I did have dull shower tiles from water spots, and this Action Scrubber cleaned it nicely. It also cleaned the grime off the inside of my bathtub with relative ease. When I was done cleaning, I took my shower wand and sprayed the cleaner off, and it actually came off in a sheeting action, leaving my tile and tub shining and clean. Before tossing the pad, I cleaned my bathroom sink and counter, and again, it did a good job and it did it quickly.

Although I didn’t care for the scent of the pads when I removed them from their plastic bag, I found that they actually left a fresh clean scent in my bathroom that was nice and not at all irritating to my sensitive sinus’s. I would recommend using rubber gloves when cleaning with this Action Scrubber, as my hands felt very dried out within a half hour of using it.

When it was time to put the cleaner away, the foam handle sits perfectly into the top of the clear plastic tub that holds the cleaning pads. There is a little indented place on top, about 1/2″ deep, that stores the handle in place. This only takes up 5″ by 6″ in my cleaning closet, and I don’t ever have to worry about any spilling issues like I do with liquid cleaners.

My only complaint is that this product does not clean the grout in my bathroom tile. About the only way I’ve found to clean and whiten my grout is to spray chlorine bleach onto it. I can’t find any ingredients listed on my box, only that it contains lactic acid, solvents and surfactants. The box does warn not to use with bleach or other household cleaners, or hazardous fumes can result. It also warms to avoid surfaces that can be easily scratched. It is not intended for marble, brass, wood, mirrors, or inside toilet bowls. You should wash hands well after handling the pads.

The Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber retails for $5.29, and the refill packs of cleaning pads run $3.19 for a package of six. Overall, I have been quite pleased with this cleaning product. It works quite well, and I love the foam handle, it’s actually fun to use … not that I think cleaning is fun, but this makes short work of my chore of cleaning the tub and tile. I recommend this cleaner and think you’ll like it too.
