A Visitor’s Guide to Rhode Island

Rhode Island is our smallest state. It is the only state that has the same number of congressmen as senators, Two of each. There are 39 cities and towns in Rhode Island Now don’t get me wrong, I ma not making fun of Rhode Island I love it there I have many memories of summers spent in Cranston and Warwick. Spending time in Roger Williams Park, fishing and swimming in the sound and spending quiet evenings on the porch with family.

Lets take a look at Rhode Island today and see what it has to offer as a vacation destination.

There are 22 State Parks in Rhode Island offering everything from horseback riding to snowmobiling . Like camping? Many of the parks have great camp grounds. Since Rhode Island has so many miles of coast line, three are many state beaches.

Bristol County is the smallest county in Rhode Island and is located on beautiful Mount Hope and Narraganset bays, and therefore it is one of the best places for a boating vacation.

Come to Kent County and the Stepping Stone Ranch if you like horseback riding. Kent also give you a choice of 4 golf courses. Kent County is also home to The Varnum Memorial Armory where you can see military artifacts going back to the 16th century.

In June Newport is host to the Newport International Film Festival. If music is what you enjoy, plan your visit for August and see the Newport Folk Festival.

Like jazz, reggae, pop? During July and August enjoy open air concerts on the lawn of The John Brown House Museum, 52 Power Street, Providence, As a matter of fact, why not make a day of it and start out with a visit to the museum itself See the exhibits and learn about John Browne and his times

One of the most unusual experiences you can have is on the water in Providence. How about 100 bonfires set on the water. It is an exhibition called WaterFire and it is free, so you can just sit at a caf�© on the waterfront and enjoy.

Roger Williams Park and Zoo
A perfect place for a family fun day. You can ride the Victorian Carousel, ride a live pony, plan in the play ground that is accessible for all children. And spend some time on the lake, Yu can take a guided tour or rent a boat and go at your won pace. Don’t leave without visiting the zoo. That is a must

Like to golf? Washington County has 16 golf courses to you to choose from. Get a look at 18th century life by visiting the Babcock-Smith House 124 Granite St .Westerly RI You can visit The Block Island North Light House It is still an active Coast Guard facility but the first floor is a great museum.

In May, Richmond hosts the Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival, with Highland Games and
competitions, great food, and of course the Celtic Music.

Get a real view of rural life in Rhode Island in August when the town of Richmond puts on the largest county fair in Rhode Island, the Washington County Fair.

Bring the Kids to Adventure Land Amusement Park and try everything from bumper boats to miniature golf

Spend a day soaking up the sun and swimming at the Atlantic Beach Park

And Washington County is not just a summer place. In winter the Yawgoo Valley Waterpark turns into a great ski area.

With its close proximity to Massachusetts and Connecticut Rhode Island makes a great addition to a New England vacation Wether you choose to come in the summer for the beaches, boating and fishing, the fall to see the changing colors, the winter for skiing and snow boarding or in the spring for the early festivals, Rhode Island will give you a vacation you will not soon/ forget.
