Activities on Bundick Lake
Bundick Lake, located in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, is named after an early settler to the area, Bill Bundick. This 1747-acre lake is considered a fishing lake due to the dead timber and stumps located in it that would create problems for people wanting to water ski. Fishing on this lake includes spotted bass, large mouth bass, black crappie, channel catfish, longear sunfish, white bass and striped bass.
Below Bundick Lake’s spillway, is Bundick Creek. This creek also offers fishing for spotted bass, white bass, large mouth bass and striped bass as well as channel catfish and black crappie either in a small boat or from the bank down some 36 miles before emptying into the Ouiska Chitto River in Allen Parish. Bundick Creek is also enjoyed by those who just wish to cool off on hot Louisiana days, by taking a dip in it or by sunbathing on one of its many white sand beaches.
Camping is available at both, Bundick Lake and Bundick Creek. Commercial camping is available at Nichol’s Landing, located off Highway 394. Nichol’s Landing offers RV hookups overlooking Bundick Lake. Primitive camping is also available on Bundick Creek, down from the spillway, which is just past Nichol’s Landing.
Another sport popular here is ATV (all terrain vehicle) riding. The land around Bundick Creek has many ATV trails that will keep the ATVer busy for an afternoon or for an entire weekend. These trails range in skill level from beginner to the most experienced rider. There is plenty of terrain to keep trail riders and mudbogger alike interested. There are trails on both sides of the river with a couple of river crossings making them accessible if the water is low enough. ATVers can either park at the boat dock located at the spillway or ride their ATVs to the trails by following the road on to the pipeline or by driving their vehicles to the pipeline and parking there. Be sure to keep all ATV traffic to the opposite side of the pipeline from where Bundick Creek comes from Bundick Lake as this area is privately owned and frowns on ATVs.
No matter which sport you choose, whether it is fishing or ATV riding, one thing to keep in mind is that there are no stores near by, so be sure to bring everything you will need or want with you when you come. Running out of gas is not a good thing in this area, so be prepared. Another thing to remember when enjoying this natural resource is to keep it clean, do not leave any trash for someone else to pick up. Bundick Lake and Bundick Creek both offer exciting opportunities for fishing or ATV riding and are worth trying if these sports are appealing to you.
