Adirondack Summer
The entire region, beginning with the Southern Adirondacks is well over one million acres of small villages and towns, rivers and lakes renowned for their fishing, mountain trails, camp grounds with everything from full facilities to pioneer style.
A few miles north of the State Capital of Albany in Washington County, is the Battenkill Campground. The Battenkill is a 50 miles long river between Eastern New York and Western Vermont. Great trout fishing. You can also canoe, kayak, or use a rubber tire for a wild river ride and combine that with hiking and bicycling mountain trails. Come in June for the Hot Air balloon Festival in Cambridge (home of apple pie a la mode) or in early spring to tour the maple sugar makers or take the Fiber Tour and visit Llama, Alpaca, Angora Rabbit and sheep farms Learn how the wool is harvested, made into fiber and get a demonstration of how to spin the fiber into wool. From here it is a short drive to Saratoga Springs for racing at the oldest Thoroughbred track in the US(meet is in Aug or come all year round for harness racing)Visit the Saratoga and Bennington (in near by Vermont) monuments to the Revolutionary War. The battle of Saratoga, the turning pint of the war was fought here. Visit the numerous historical museums and see what life was like in the Victorian era. Come at harvest time and pick your own apples among other local crops.
Washington County also was the home of the great American Primitive Artist Grandma Moses.
A litter further north is the Lake George Region. Lake George forms a natural boundary between Washington and warren counties The Village of Lake George is quaint with small shops, fantastic restaurants and friendly people. You can take a dinner cruise on the Lake on board an old fashioned paddle wheeler, or bring your own boat or rent one if you want to do it yourself. And for the kids( or the whole family) there is Six Flags Great Escape and Splash Water Kingdom
Don’t forget Lake Placid, the site of two Winter Olympics, another great boating spot.
In Hamilton County visit Adirondack Park , which has been a forest preserve since 1885
Visit Fort Ticonderoga, a fort from the French and Indian war. It is a national Historical Landmark. Over 90,000 tourists visit the Fort each year.

Don’t have a summer vacation or have other plans? Come in the fall , start in the north at the Canadian Border and follow the changing leaves south. Come in the Winter for a weekend and take home a Christmas tree that you have cut yourself from one of the Christmas Tree farms. Like winter Sports Ski resorts abound.
