All You Can Eat in Kenosha
By far the most popular buffet in Kenosha is the Golden Corral. Any night of the week they offer all you can eat steak as well as a variety of home-style meats and side dishes. If you want to visit the Golden Corral, your best bet is to go before 5 or after 8pm. During the dinner rush it is unbearably crowded. You may spend your entire visit just trying to get a fatty slab of tough steak. While the steak leaves much to be desired, there are several other dishes that are quite tasty. Unfortunately, the dining experience tends to be more an exercise in anger-management and more stressful than enjoyable. Children tend to run amuck and many of the guests act like they have not eaten in weeks, cutting in line and food hoarding are common. The service area is run inefficiently and many times a serving pan will sit empty for up to 30 minutes before the staff will refill it. The wait staff range in skill from a few excellent servers to many that make you wonder who hired them and why haven’t they been fired. The management is probably to blame for the disorganization of the establishment, as they tend to wander around in a daze and do not handle complaints with more than a shrug and an empty apology. In spite of this there is always a crowd, if you are brave enough to fight the insanity, try the grilled salmon with salsa, and the pot roast. Be sure to save room for dessert, the banana pudding is delicious and the coconut cream pie is to die for. The Golden Corral is located at 6208 75th Street and is open for lunch and dinner during the week and offer breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet on the weekends. If they expanded the size of the restaurant to accommodate the traffic and stepped up the quality of the staff, The Golden Corral would be unbeatable.
An alternative to the Golden Corral can be found right down the street at 7000 74th Place (accessible from 75th Street). The Old Country Buffet offers American cuisine and tends to favor southern foods. While most would agree the food is not as good as the Golden Corral, it is less crowded and the staff is more pleasant. One big advantage to the Country Buffet is the self-service drinks and dishes. Diners do not have to wait for the staff to bring them refills or clean plates. Old Country Buffet is located in the parking lot of Tinseltown Theater, a 14-screen multiplex, which makes it convenient for a meal before or after a movie. Old Country Buffet is open at 11am on weekdays and 8 am on weekends for a delicious breakfast buffet.
If Chinese food is more to your taste, there are also 2 Chinese Buffets in the same area. If you like Sushi, try King’s Buffet at 4820 75th Street. You can’t miss the place, the exterior is bathed in neon lights and can be seen from quite a distance. They offer a generous Sushi bar, made fresh on location. The remaining selection is slightly limited and they do not offer many alternatives for those that are not big on Chinese food. The service is fair, neither terrific nor poor. But the interior is interesting to say the least. The restaurant used to be a Greek restaurant and the new owners did little to change the dÃ?©cor. Marble flooring, columns and a cathedral ceiling over a reflection pool are the backdrop for more gold dragons and fans. King’s Buffet is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Super China Buffet, located at 7405 60th Avenue, offers more Americanized dishes and is a good alternative if you have picky eaters in your party. In addition to traditional Chinese cuisine, they offer pizza and other comfort foods. The dÃ?©cor is nowhere near as interesting as King’s Buffet, but they do have several fish tanks featuring koi and other interesting fish, which is an attraction for children. The service here is also unremarkable. Also, the bathrooms have been filthy at times. The offer booth seating which isn’t very roomy and the traditional Chinese music can be a little loud at times. If you are looking for more authentic Chinese food, you may find yourself disappointed in Super China Buffet, but if you are slightly less adventurous but still enjoy some Chinese food, this might be the buffet for you. They are located in the Pick N Save Parking lot, you can see the restaurant from 75th Street, but need to enter off 60th Ave.
Buffet style restaurants are not four-star dining. There are many that believe that public access to food is a sanitation risk. But for those that want a lot of food for a low price, a buffet offers just that, and 75th Street in Kenosha provides an all you can eat haven. If buffets are not your style, there are a variety of fast food and family restaurants in the area as well. Bottom line, if you are hungry in Kenosha, you will find something to eat on 75th Street.
