Alternative Uses for Burner Covers
Use the large burner cover as a centerpiece for your table. Set flowers on it, or just place the salt and pepper shakers along with a napkin holder, on the burner cover. Use the smaller ones to set hot pots on the table. The burner covers are rather flimsy so don’t set overly heavy pots or pans on them.
Place one of the small burner covers on its flat side and fill with ball bearings. The bearings should stand slightly taller than the burner cover. Now place the large burner cover over the ball bearings. The arrangement makes a lazy Susan that can hold spices or other items. Simply turn the large burner cover when you need to view the spices. The cover will turn easily because of the ball bearings. This also makes a nice gift when you give it in a put-it-together-yourself package. Include some spices or spice jars to make it more presentable.
Purchase a small brass ring at a craft store and use it to make a wall hanging of burner covers. Align one large and two small burner covers in a row, with the large one at the top. Or, just use the three small ones and save the large one for a centerpiece. Allow a small gap of a couple of inches, between each cover. Measure the length of the arrangement, double this amount, and add five inches. Cut the final measurement from ribbon, yarn, decorative roping, leather sinew, or a piece of cloth.
Find the center of the rope or ribbon and fold in half. Lay the ring on top of the fold and take the stray ends of the ribbon and pass them both through the ribbon loop, around the ring. Pull tightly. This will attach the ribbon or roping to the ring. Now lay the ring and ribbon arrangement on a table, pulling the two pieces slightly apart from each other.
Lay the large burner cover on the ribbons, and make a mark where the edges of the cover meet with the ribbon. Place hot glue or another adhesive on the marked areas of the burner cover. Now position the burner cover onto the ribbons. Follow suit by doing the small burner covers in the same manner. Before placing the last burner cover, trim the ribbon if necessary, so that it doesn’t show below the cover. Or, allow the ribbon to hang below the last burner cover then place a trinket on each end. If the burner covers have rooster images, for example, hang small wooden baby chicks on each end. Cut both strands the same length or allow one to hang slightly longer than the other.
Use one large burner cover and four small ones to make a utensil holder. Set the large burner cover, face up, on a table. Use contact cement to arrange the four smaller ones into a square, glued to the large one at the bottom. Use the cement to attach the sides of each cover to each other. Now you have a decorative holder for stove utensils. Since this craft requires one extra cover you can opt to make the utensil holder with just one large and three small (one package) by placing the small ones in a triangular shape on the large one, rather than a square.
The burner covers can also be mounted on cabinet doors, can be used with magnets to attach to appliances, and can even be glued to your trash can.
