American Music Awards 2013: Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, One Direction Score Big Wins
Music award shows obviously love Taylor Swift, and it showed at the 41st American Music Awards Sunday night. ABC presented the all-fans-voted ceremonies live in a three-hour telecast. The AMAs were filled with non-stop performances and marginal award presentations from an array of unlikely presenters. One of them included Rihanna’s mother, Monica Fenty. It was during these announcements Taylor Swift was the biggest winner of the night for Artist of the Year, along with two in the country music category for Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Album – “Red.”
Justin Timberlake proved to be a versatile artist by winning in the pop/rock and R&B categories as Favorite Male Artist. He took home a third statuette for Favorite Album, Soul/R&B – “The 20/20 Experience.” One Direction won Favorite Album, Pop or Rock – “Take Me Home” and Favorite Pop Band, Duo, or Group. Rihanna was the first recipient of the AMA Icon Award for her contribution as one of the all-time best selling digital artists. Presenter Bill Maher surprised Rihanna with the award given by her mother.
Performances were given by other winners, besides Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and One Direction, that included Arianna Grande, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis who were live in concert in Miami; Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, and Florida Georgia Line featuring Nelly.
