Anna Nalick: Fresh Young Talent Carving Her Notch in the Music Scene

Anna Nalick’s debut disc, Wreck of the Day,on Sony label, came on scene in 2005, and commands staying power. Writing her own music and lyrics for this debut, this new young artist proves her talents.

Her musical styles are a blend of pop/rock and adult alternative. As a lyricist, her youth does not overshadow the sophisticated empowering words she has generated, and then meshes it with heartfelt melodies and her voice, making for a truly enjoyable listen.

A definite feminine edge plays out throughout this disc, and no wonder with some of her influences being Fiona Apple, and Tori Amos. When listening to this disc, one can definitely spot other artistic influences such as, Nelly Furtado, Alanis Morissette, Jewel, and Sheryl Crow; and it’s no wonder because those who worked with her to produce, engineer, and musically create this first work, have also worked with the above mentioned.

Back to the lyrics, they are deep, but not over your head deep, that you will not be able to find yourself shaking your head in agreement, while you identify with the words she delivers-true connections are felt. Though she’s young, her words are heartfelt and pure reflections of her personal experiences.

Her voice can be likened to Lisa Loeb and Sara McLaughlin, and because of the similarity she holds to the strong female musicians of the 90’s, this may get her classified as more of an impersonator. But, this is definitely not the case with Ms. Nalick, she is truly a blossoming artist, standing out on her own merits with her first debut disc. Her foundation of female influences has helped to shape and mold her craft. The melodic harmonies carried throughout each song, are catchy and refreshing.

Besides the discs first release, Breathe (2AM), other engaging tracks are: Citadel, Satellite, In The Rough, and Catalyst. There is really not one track on this debut disc that is not noteworthy of recognition, which definitely makes her stand out as a talented artist of today. Hopefully, she can continue to deliver such quality in the future.
