Are Immigrants Aliens, or Real Americans?
The only problem it seems is that these people aren’t granted citizenship. Don’t you think it would be a wise idea to grant these people the right to live here? It only seems fair, considering we are the country of the free, the proud and the brave. If the government would just realize that granting these people their rights would mean more money for them in taxes, then they would probably be jumping on the chance to add to their taxpayer base. The question is, are we too proud to allow people into our country, the country that we had to fight for, just because they weren’t around to fight for it with us? What snobs we are!
A lot of people have the ignorant notion about foreigners, that because they don’t speak English, they are complicating our society. Well, I do believe that immigrants should learn English for the benefit to themselves, they are at a greater deficit by not speaking English than we are by not understanding them. I don’t however believe that they should be forced to speak English. They need to speak English to hold a job in our society. Our society here in the United States has been likened to a melting pot many times, but it seems today that no one wants to melt anymore. Why we have continued to develop into a society that excludes people because of their origin is a mystery. I would think that after all America has been through that we would be more accepting of other people. First we oppress and enslave American natives at the same time we steal their land. Then we move on to enslaving and oppressing Africans, who till this day, are still considered African-Americans, instead of just plain Americans. And now we have moved on to a higher form of oppression and pseudo-slavery know as a work visa, and the victims are Mexicans, Arabs, and other peoples from around the world. Rodney King coined the million dollar question when he shouted it out amidst his vicious beating, “Why can’t we all just get along?”
