By pin pointing the problems that you or your loved ones face you can find a healthy solution using aroma therapy. To find out more about how aroma therapy works and why it is so effective please read my article entitled “Aroma Therapy: An In Depth Look”

Aroma Therapy: Oils for Hyperactivity
Being a mother of a hyperactive child and having a sibling with the same condition I can tell you from experience that medications are not always the way to go. As with any chemicals and medications a body may react to it as a foreign substance thus causing severe side effects and adverse reactions. I do recommend trying first natural remedies as side effects are usually non existent except for the occasional minor allergy or food allergy. Below are just a couple of recipes for a slowing and calming affect.

In a bowl mix ½ cup water (boil and let cool)
20 drops of lavender
7 drops sandalwood,
7 drops marjoram

*Do remember when dealing with oils there a number of things you can do to dispense the mixture. Humidifiers are great, potpourri crock pots are great for simmering, and you can also fill a spray bottle and spray directly on you or your loved one OR spray it in the room for everyone to enjoy.

25 drops lavender
10 drops sandalwood
10 drops cedar wood

This is best used inhaled through a steamer or sprayed in the air.

Aroma Therapy: Arthritis

10 drops juniper oil
5 drops lavender oil
5 drops rosemary oil
4 drops cypress oil
Mix these oils well and add to a warm bath. The medicinal properties will absorb through the skin and relive aches and pains due to arthritis. For extremely painful arthritis you can mix the above ingredients in a small bowl. Wet, with cold water, a washcloth and wring it out-let the cold washcloth absorb the oils from the bowl. Apply directly to the pained area.

Aroma Therapy: Hyper Tension and High Blood Pressure

Many people suffer from hypertension, anxiety and high blood pressure. The following are a couple of excellent ways to reduce these common conditions.

15 drops lavender oil
5 drops marjoram oil
3 drops geranium oil
½ cup honey

Mix this well and add to a hot bath. Soak in the tub for at least a ½ an hour by candle light only. A cool compress over your eyes enhances the experience.

The spray bottle comes in handy for this next concoction. If you keep it with you at all times, whenever you are feeling particularly stressed or tense you can spray it in the air and breathe deeply to ensure calming affect quickly. The below recipe is for a small spray bottle that fits easily in a purse, brief case, glove compartment, etc.

½ of the bottle lavender oil
1 tablespoon clary sage
1 tablespoon rosemary
1 tablespoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons Ylang ylang oil

Once it is combined in the spray bottle shake thoroughly. Remember that the spray bottle should not be clear but rather a dark or thick plastic bottle. Keep it out of direct sunlight as constant exposure may change/dilute the medicinal properties of the oils.

Aroma Therapy: Insomnia
I can not say enough about lavender. If you or any one you know has problems with sleeping or if your child wakes in the middle of the night with a bad dream, lavender can help. Placing dry lavender sprig or even a bouquet in a restless child’s room can prove to be quite helpful in the aid of getting a restful night sleep. Or, lavender oils can be used in any one of the dispensing options I have provided in this article.

If you have a problem whether it is stress, hyperactive children, or insomnia, there is a remedy for it with aroma therapy. Read this article for a few pointers and recipes.
