Arranging a Fruit Platter
Once you have decided on what fruit to use on your fruit platter, you will then need to purchase a platter. Regardless of the size of your party, you should use a large platter. To decorate the platter you may want to place a doily or some tulle around the edges of the platter just to give it that decorative touch. People always eat plenty of fruit, so even if you are having a small party, it is still better to have lots of fruit for everyone to nibble on. You should begin preparing your platter about one to two hours prior to the start of your party. Any earlier and your fruit will start to get very mushy, even if refrigerated. If you have chosen to use grapes, make sure that they are seedless.
You do not have to remove all of them from the vine for your fruit platter. Simply cut the grapes into small bunches, and arrange on the platter. If you have also decided to go with melons for your fruit platter, you can slice them into small to medium size chunks. Then put toothpicks in each of them, so that it will be easy for your guest to pick up. When it comes to using strawberries, do not slice them. It is always best to keep strawberries whole, and just arrange them with toothpicks around the outside of your platter. It really will look beautiful. For an extra added touch, you could get decorative toothpicks. For example if you are hosting a baby shower, you can get baby shower toothpicks. They are very inexpensive and really and a special touch to any fruit platter.
If you are not sure exactly what look you want for your platter, try playing around with different ideas and see which looks best. You do however want to make sure that it does not take you more than thirty minutes to prepare your fruit platter. Any longer than that and your fruit will begin to get a little mushy. You want all of the fruit on your platter to be nice, crisp, and fresh when your guests arrive. Just remember to be creative and use your imagination.
