Art Activities in Clermont
Clermont is a quaint town, growing in size exponentially over the past several years. Due to this growth, however, there are many programs available for children of all ages to participate, including art activities.
Not Just Dance is a local studio offering music, art, and dance classes for children from ages two and up. Classes are designed appropriately by age and incorporate music, dance, and art into their individualized classes. They also have separate dance and music classes for older children, once they reach the age of seven. Their rates are comparable with other local studios, and registration includes the required uniform for dress. Their classes, with the exception of over the summer are fourteen week and there is a variety of class times per age group. Summer sessions are slightly shorter. This program is a fun way to incorporate these three extra-curricular activities together into one unique class.
Plaster Cottage is a family owned and operated studio that doesn’t charge any fees for studio time. You can go during any of their operating hours to paint pottery for different methods of finishing, design mosaics with tile, or scrapbook. They also offer Friday evening classes for children in the evening with pizza, movies, and paint time; a fun activity for kids and parents can even enjoy a date night out. Saturday evenings are open scrap-booking nights, where anyone can come and utilize the space at the facility to spread out and work on their scrap-books. Plaster Cottage also offers birthday party packages as well as summer camps. All costs for paint are included in the price listed per piece, based on size. The staff are friendly and helpful, which makes visiting a pleasant experience, especially for kids. Too often, children are not included in project-based activities of this nature, but Plaster Cottage treats everyone like family.
New to Clermont is the Lake County Business Center of Art, which has recently opened a gallery for study in art appreciation. The Center offers a variety of classes for older children and adults including working with acrylics, teaching how to draw comic books, Beginning Drawing, Fashion Design, Watercolor, and more. All classes have a specific schedule and specific day for meeting, and the fees are generally about $30.00 without materials for a scheduled class of two or more hours.
The Business Center offers camps for children over the summer in addition to their regular classes. The methods taught are due to change, to offer more exposure to the arts. The exhibit is professionally kept, especially for a non-profit organization, and is making its mark in the Clermont/Minneola area.
Art is often overlooked in many homes. It’s an expensive hobby and can be messy, which keep many families closed off to opening their houses to art activities. This doesn’t have to be the case any more, when you have facilities right next door to help hone skills in families, of all ages. That means parents too!
