As Seen on TV Product Review: The Scissor Slicer

As Seen on TV products sometimes seem too good to be real. As a reviewer of several of these products I have found that a lot of them do deliver on their promises. However, others often times fall short of their promises. One of the latest products that I have purchased to test is the Scissor Slicer. This product retails for between $6.95 and $19.95 and claims to be a quick and handy slicer. After using this product for food prep for my annual canning marathon I have found that overall this is a handy product.

Good Features of the Scissor Slicer

There are many things that I like about the Scissor Slicer. First the price is very reasonable. I found my Scissor Sliver for $6.95 on http://www.ltdcommodities.com. However, you can find one in a variety of online stores and in some department stores for about $9.95. The second thing that I really liked about this product is the locking mechanism. This lock is located on the handle and it is easy to set, it maintains a secure lock, and it is easy to release when ready. This product also has a cutting board surface instead of two blades, which helps to secure the item being cut. This makes it very easy to chop up veggies and fruits and drop them directly into the pot or bowl that you are working over. This feature also helps to reduce mess and counter clutter while cooking or canning. Finally this product is able to cut a wide variety of items from crunchy celery and garlic to soft foods like overripe pears, strawberries, and other fruits.

Drawbacks of the Scissor Sliver

While overall I loved this product, it does have a few problems with its design. First the blade and cutting surface only open up a couple of inches. This makes it impossible to cut into pears, apples, and larger fruits and veggies. However, you can overcome this problem by first cutting the veggies into smaller pieces and then using the Scissor Slicer for the fine cutting work. If you have to go through all of that you might as well just continue using the knife.
