Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal: Beat the Winter Dry Skin Blues

I’ve always been a big lotion user and I have tried numerous brands. My skin is never usually prone to dryness except during cooler weather like most. For the past year I have used Curel lotion almost religiously. My daughter’s pediatrician advised me that Curel is wonderful for a baby and adults. After trying so many lotions that seemed to dry up and leave a cheap “perfumey” smell, I thought Curel was the best lotion ever made. I had heard of Aveeno lotion several times, but I always skipped over it in the aisles and went straight to Curel. Last week, my favorite brand of Curel was out, so I thought I would purchase a tube of Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion to see what all the fuss was about. It seems that everywhere I look, there is some kind of ad praising this lotion, but I have seen that with several not so great products. All I had to lose was $6.99, so I purchased the lotion to find out for myself.

ABOUT AVEENO

Aveeno Daily Mositurizing Lotion is a lotion made by Johnson and Johnson. I already went in with good expectations because Johnson and Johnson products have never failed me. What makes this lotion a cut above the rest is the natural colloidal oatmeal that is in the lotion. Also added in with the oatmeal is emollients. These ingredients combined together are supposed to combine moisture for your skin for at least 24 hours. The lotion is also noncomedogenic, which basically means it will not clog your pores. What impressed me most is that this lotion is “natural”, or as natural as a lotion can be. I bought the 8 oz. tube that has a top that you flip open. I noticed there were various sizes from 2.5 oz. ( which has a twist off cap) to a 12 oz. bottle that has a pump top to squeeze the lotion out. The tube itself is attractive for a lotion. It comes in a tan color with with green writing on the front. In the background there is an oatmeal steam, giving the lotion a very natural appearance. It claims to be fragrance free but there IS a smell to it. It is not really or fruity or flower smell. It’s a smell really hard to explain. It has almost like a “new” scent or maybe a light air scent, but it is not at all unpleasant. In fact, I actually like the smell a lot. The lotion itself is white in color and very creamy. I could tell just by the texture that I was glad that I made this purchase.

MY EXPERIENCE

As soon as the first use, I knew this was going to be a favorite lotion of mine. My hands have gotten a little dry lately and the problem was almost immediately gone. This is quite common in a lot of lotions, and then 20 minutes later the dryness is back. I waited and I waited and the moisture did indeed stay. At that point, I used this lotion anywhere my skin may get dry. The results were exceptional. This lotion is terrific. I especially like the fact that my skin was bogged down with strong lotion smells. The scent is as natural as a lotion can get, and just feels right on my skin. The next day I did the “24 hour test” that the lotion guarantees, and even though my skin was not as moisturized as when I first applied the lotion, the moisture was still there. If you are like me and you do not like any added fragrance ( or even worse, if you are allergic to added fragrance), then I recommend this product.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I would suggest this lotion to anyone that wants or needs to use lotion, but especially to those who can’t or won’t use fragrance filled lotions. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my experience with this product. I will be using this lotion probably more than Curel, and I didn’t think I would find an over the counter lotion that could compete. One thing not mentioned yet is that this lotion is dermatologist recommended. Well, the dermatologists got it right!
