Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer W/ SPF 15 Vs. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
To be fair and make sure that the products are similar, or what’s the use in comparing them, let’s examine their claims according to each company’s website. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion: “âÂ?¦maintain optimal moisture balance for very dry skins, or skins dry in the cheeks, comfortable to oily in the T-zone. Softens, smoothes and improves.” Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer: “âÂ?¦even out skin tone, improve skin texture, and leave skin soft and smoothâÂ?¦even good for sensitive skin.” So far, so good. Both products are aimed at skin that is a bit problematic due to dryness or sensitivity and are offering to improve skin texture through their product.
Now, what’s the first thing I want to know about a product? How much does it cost? While I’m willing to pay for a quality product, I don’t have the desire to toss my money away on something that doesn’t work no matter what the price tag is. Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion sells a 4.2 ounce screw top bottle for $21.50 which is approximately $5.38 per ounce. They do have a bottle of the same size with a pump lid, but that costs an extra dollar or so. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer’s price varies slightly according to store so I wasn’t able to figure out exactly the price per ounce. However, the highest price I’ve seen it for was just shy of $14.00 for 4.0 ounces in a pump bottle which equals (again, this is an approximation) $3.50 per ounce. Both of those seem pricey to me, but at least with Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer I can count on getting change back from a twenty dollar bill.
Now, pushing the price aside, I want to know where can I get it? Convenience is no small matter and in this instance Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer wins the point again because it can be purchased from any drugstore such as Wal-Mart or Target. Not only is the location convenient, but I don’t have to talk to a salesperson who will inevitably try to sell me something else. Additionally, both products can be purchased over the internet through either the Clinique website or Drugstore.com which is even more convenient until you think about shipping and handling.
Thus far, the drugstore version (Aveeno) seems to be winning as far as price and convenience go, but quality is the most important factor and the saying “you get what you pay for” still rings true in many cases. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave my skin looking or feeling greasy. I have noticed a tendency for the pump to clog forcing me to unscrew the top and shake the bottle around which is rather annoying at times. Also, I find myself using what seems to be a lot of lotion, a pump per cheek and one for my forehead. However, those two grievances quickly fade when I check out the mirror and see that my skin actually does appear to have better skin tone and feels really soft. Moving right along to Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion I find that without the pump top it is also kind of a pain to get out of the container so there’s no real winner there. The texture of the lotion seems to be heavier and while it absorbs fairly well I notice more of a shine to my skin than the glow that I had with Aveeno. On the upside, I think that the Clinique lotion spread further so I wasn’t using quite as much of it. So as far as quality goes I have to give this round to Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer again because my skin just looked so good after I used it.
Always wanting to be thorough I’ve noted some other difference between the products as well that are worth noting. An advantage to Clinique being a department store brand is that you’ll have a salesperson to walk you through the benefits of different formulations, and is part of a skin-care system. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion is also not tested on animals, and is 100% fragrance free. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer is oil free, noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic, and contains SPF 15. There are also a variety of similar products, but it’s up to the consumer to pick and choose what’s right for them lacking the salesperson.
Like the outcome of David and Goliath the giant has fallen. The winner of this product comparison between Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion and Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer goes to Aveeno in every category compared. While this might seem like a landslide, it really comes down to the fact that while both products worked and have their respective pros and cons Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer has more of what this consumer is looking for: lower price, purchasing convenience, high-quality, and even the added bonus of not having to use an additional daily sunscreen, this is certainly a product that lives us to it’s marketing claims.
