Baby Product Review: The Angel Care Monitor

Even though my son is 19 months old now, I remember not knowing what the heck to register for before he was born and what we would need versus what seemed cool, etc. I figured we could cut corners and save some money on things we’d never use like a changing table and a Diaper Genie, or even the infamous wipes warmer….and I was right. However, I was oh-so-wrong about the baby montor we chose. I just couldn’t fathom spending $100 on one. So, we got the $30 sound-only monitor. If only someone had told me about the Angel Care Monitor and how, yes, it really was worth the extra money!

The Angel Care Monitor by Bebe Sounds is by far the BEST baby monitor on the market. I wish I had known about this monitor before my son was born because it would have saved me a lot of sleep deprived nights when he was a newborn! What you don’t realize before you have a baby of your own is that you will spontaneously wake up out of a deep sleep every 20 minutes just to check and see if your baby is still breathing. My son was a great sleeper from day one. He would only wake up once for a feeding at night so had we owned the Angel Care monitor in the beginning I could have really raked in some slumber and some sanity!

I “discovered” the Angel Care Monitor when my son was 4 months old. I had seen it & monitors like it in the store when we were registering for our baby shower but thought it was not something we would need and never looked any further into it. We ended up with a regular baby monitor which was a complete waste of money. At 4 months old we wanted to move our son into his own room so I started searching on the internet for a motion sensor type monitor and that is when I read several posts on a parenting website about Angel Care. I read the posts, read other on-line reviews and went to BabyCenter.com to order it (great deal on the monitor there!).

The Angel Care Monitor not only works as a sound monitor but also as a motion sensor. It comes with a pad that you place under the crib mattress and makes a light ticking sound, like a clock, whenever it senses movement in the crib. Should the baby stop breathing an alarm goes off within 20 seconds to alert the parents. The sensor pad is so sensitive that it detects a baby’s breathing, and cannot be used in a room with an overhead fan because it will detect the motion of the wind blowing and consider it part of the baby’s movement. This monitor allows you to have the peace of mind of knowing that should your baby stop breathing you will be alerted right away. No alarm means your baby is sleeping peacefully which will allow you to as well.

This monitor was a lifesaver for us. I finally got great sleep knowing that if my son would have trouble breathing I would know about it right away. This is a product EVERY parent of a newborn/infant should have. I never had any false alarms with this product. The only times the alarm erroneously went off was when I would forget to turn it off before picking up my son…and within 20 seconds it was ringing. It definitely worked!

I have recommended this to several of my friends who have had babies after me and they have all loved the monitor. It is more expensive than the regular sound-only baby monitors but it is worth every penny. One thing you figure out very quickly when you have a child is that you can’t put a price on their safety, on a night of good sleep, or on your sanity. I give the Angel Care Monitor my mommy seal of approval without hesitation!
