Baseball Heaven
The White Sox play at U.S. Cellular field on the south side of the city. It is, without question, the best place in the city to see a game played, four out-distancing the cramped and crumbling headquarters of the National League team slowly rotting on the north side of town.
Once you arrive you will find plenty of parking. The parking is clean and fenced and not too far from the stadium. If you take public transportation the El stop is also nice and close.
The stadium is roomy and the seats are comfortable. There is hardly a bad seat in the house and when you are sitting in the lower level you can still see the game because of the open concourse.
The selection of food is second-to-none. Gyros, churros, hot dogs, Polish sausage, ice cream, chicken sandwiches, Dippin’ Dots, funnel cakes, and even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches etc. There is Connie’s Pizza, the Cantina for frozen margaritas. There’s the Bullpen Sports Bar in the outfield for the adults where not only can you get a drink but watch the game with a view of the field that is nearly on the field. You can get cheesecake and ice cream at the “Sweet Spot.” That is just a short list of what you can find to eat there.
The Jumbo-tron is huge and the screen clear. The sound system is fantastic which is all important so you can hear and see the opening music and video montage guaranteed to raise the hair on your arms. Clips of great moments in White Sox history flash across the screen as the music builds to a goose-bump raising pitch an intensity. Then, just as the montage ends the opening guitar strains from AC/DCs “Thunderstruck” plays as the starting lineup is introduced.
If the kids get restless there is the Pontiac Fundamentals section in left field. There the kids can take a baseball clinic, hit in the batting cages, practice base-running and pitching.
Then of course, you also have great baseball to watch.
You can’t go wrong at U.S. Cellular and with a trip to see the White Sox play.
