Bathroom Fixture Facelifts

Bathrooms should be used as a place of retreat. They should create a calm, peaceful feeling to it’s inhabitants. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bathrooms that have minor cosmetic flaws that ruin the tranquil feeling. Most bathroom flaws deal with the fixtures. Here are several ways to give your bathroom fixtures a cosmetic facelift.

Small Porcelain Chips
Chips in the sink, bathtub, and toilet are fairly common since they are used frequently. Small chips are easy to cover. Simply, clean the area with alcohol and wait for it to dry. Then, give the fixture a facelift by applying enamel paint to the chip with a small brush.

Mineral Deposits and Stains
Those of us with hard water know the cosmetic issues of mineral deposits and stains all too well. Mineral deposits are fairly simple to remove. Although they seem to be caked onto the fixtures, once they are dislodged, they can be removed fairly easily. Commercial products do wonders for these mineral deposits. Rust stains are different. There are several various ways you can remove rust stains from bathroom fixtures. First, try liquid chlorine bleach and rub on the area. If this does not work, use a lemon or lemon juice and rub that to the area. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse clean.

Bathtub Wall Joint Separation
One of the most unsightly problems for bathroom fixtures is a separated bathtub wall joint. Since the bathtub is constantly filled and emptied, this problem will resurface year after year. Fortunately, it is fairly simple to fix. First, remove the old caulk from the joint. Make sure your area is clean and dry before applying the new caulk. Then, Fill the tub with water. Once the tub is filled, you can begin applying your caulk at a 45 degree angle. Try not to stop your caulk stream on each continuous wall.

Large Porcelain Chips
Large porcelain chips are a little more complicated to fix than small chips. However, it is very possible. Simply, find the large broken off chip and use epoxy resin to glue it back in place. Make sure to use masking tape to hold the glued piece in place for at least an hour. Once you remove the tape, keep the area dry for about 12 hours.
