Bed NYC

The first time I went to Bed I wasn’t sure if I should call it a bar, restaurant, or a nightclub. The owner Oliver Hoyos calls it a restaurant. It all really depends on what time you arrive. For those who want to stay in bed and been seen, Bed is the place to be. Bed Miami has seen a lot of success with hot faces like Paris Hilton, Jamie Fox, Gwen Stefani, Johny Knoxville, and Will Smith. With that success Bed has expanded to New York City and will be coming to Atlanta in early 2005. Bed Miami quickly became the hot spot for the beautiful people of TV, film, and the music industry. Bed NYC seems to be headed for the same success.

Bed NYC offers more than 15,000 square feet of dining and dancing space. From the street entrance, Bed NYC visitors take a private elevator to the 6th floor that can hold about 20 people. The subtle entryway adds to the calming atmosphere of Bed NYC. The space is designed with sheer curtains and over sized beds that can accommodate approximately 5-7 guests each. Bed NYC can accommodate more than 600 guests. Each bed is made with Egyptian cotton sheets and luxurious plush pillows. Sheer curtains elegantly separate the beds, unless you choose to dine in the middle of the room on a bed that can accommodate approximately 15 people.

The soft hues of purple and red inside Bed NYC create a relaxing dining atmosphere. Bed NYC also has an wide plasma screen that curves along the opposite side the bar, separating the dining area. The screen is see through, but at the same time allows for visuals on the screen. This is a very unique and creative piece not found in other nightclubs. The rooftop terrace dining area is decorated with manicured gardens.The upstairs rooftop lounge is only open in the spring and summer months, but just like downstairs it is just as luxurious and comfortable. The rooftop lounge seems to be a favorite of many people, even in the colder months.

Reservations for dinner and bottle service can be made by phone 7 days a week, between the hours or 9 a.m. and 12 noon at 212-594-4109 . From Tuesday to Saturday, dinner reservations begin at 7 p.m. and on Sunday brunch beings at 2 p.m. Dinner hours at Bed NYC usually last from 7 p.m. until about 11 p.m. The menu is a mixture of French and American cuisine, and consists of specialties like duck with green squash spaghetti and raspberry sauce.

It definitely helps if you know someone who knows someone if you are trying to get into Bed NYC, especially if it is a weekend. The wait isn’t long, but if you don’t have proper ID or aren’t dressed to the nines you are probably not going to get in. Although Bed is a casual dining experience it is not the kind of establishment where you wear sneakers and shorts. Most females dress in pants and heels, and men in suit jackets and slacks. The dress code although not stated is a given. Once inside many people remove their shoes and sit back and relax on the beds. Servers will bring you anything you need so you don’t have to get up if you don’t want to.

Bed NYC is a quite a relaxing dining experience. After 11:30 p.m. Bed NYC transforms into a nightclub. Some people dance on the beds and on floor, while others relax and have a drink. The rooftop terrace is open at night if you would like to get some fresh air or smoke a cigarette without leaving the club. The DJ plays an eclectic mix of hip hob, R&B, rock and roll, and pop. Some famous faces that have visited Bed NYC have been Paris Hilton, Hulk Hogan, George Clooney, Donna Karan, Jay Z, and Cameron Diaz.
