Being Heart Healthy on the Go

Sometimes you just need to rely on more products than you’d like, but luckily in this new dawn of taking care of ourselves better, manufacturers are actually keeping their eyes (and their ingredients) on producing products that are more heart-healthy.

A recent issue of Heart-Healthy Living magazine unleashed their top 10 list of the newest good-for-you heart food products. Let’s take a peek.

1. Chicken of the Sea Smoked Pacific Salmon. Although you should only eat smoked salmon occasionally since it’s a little on the high side for sodium, it’s still a terrific source of Omega-3 fatty acids.

2. Hellmann’s Canola Real Mayonnaise. Another item that should be consumed in small quantities, at least when you use it now, you’ll have another choice. This new version, made with canola oil, has more mono and polyunsaturated fats than the original Hellmanns.

3. Uncle Ben’s Ready Whole Grain Brown Rice. Now conveniently in a small microwaveable pouch, it can be on your plate in a mere 90 seconds. Rich with antioxidants, fiber, folate and Vitamin B, you can feel good about this one.

4. Breyers Heart Smart Fudge Bars. Don’t give up your sweet treats. Eating these low-fat, low-calorie, high-flavor bars means you don’t have to.

5. Triscuit Rosemary & Olive Oil Baked Whole Grain Wheat Crackers. These little snacks are 100% whole grain and trans-fat-free.

6. Boca Meatless Chili. The folks that bring you meatless burgers have now added chili to their line. Conveniently in its own microwaveable bowl, it has 90% less fat and less calories than its counterparts. With 12 grams of fiber and 10 grams of soy protein in every bowl, you can feel good about eating this one.

7. Bisquick Heart Smart. Now you can have your breakfast favorites without the guilt. This smaller box (designed for 2 servings) helps you serve up waffles, pancakes and more with a product that is lower in fat, has no trans fat, is cholesterol free and a good source of calcium.

8. Sunkist Almond Munchies Roastie Toasties. Everyone knows that nuts are a “good fat.” These handy little 6-ounce snack bags will tide you over … salted almonds that are packed with protein, fiber and Vitamin E.
