Belly Dancing Classes in Seattle WA
Belly dancing is a unique way to get exercise and get in touch in with your own body and spirit. But for those of you that frankly have no rhythm, never fear. I know that professional belly dancers look as though they’ve been born without bones and don’t know the concept of stiffness. But learning to belly dance is easier than it looks, and these three programs strive to make your introduction as fun, easy, and educational as possible. Their rates are also quite reasonable.
Visionary Dance Productions: Middle Eastern Dance, Drum, Yoga, & Massage with Delilah & Guest Instructors; VDP Studios; 4128 Fremont Avenue North, Seattle, WA, 98103 (206)632-2353
While many of the classes are unique from one another, all of these classes can be an amazing workout. Delilah’s website describes some of the courses as “power Belly Dancing,” which can be amplified by the additional challenge of wearing a weight belt. Weighing the weight belt is supposed to have a remarkable effect on the waistline. The Power conditioning series is a healthy, gentle way to work the muscles in a body. Which is not to say that this belly dancing course is just a treadmill in disguise: the sole focus is not weight loss. Examples of other classes you can register for on their website include “Giving thanks to a woman’s body,” “Veil dancing,” and “Introduction to Egyptian Tomb Dancing.” In the pictures taken of classes, there are people of all sizes and shapes, and the instructors seem to encourage a loving accepting atmosphere. They have a wide variety of different courses listed on their website so be sure to check that out or call for more information.
Saqra’s Belly Dancing Classes “All Ages All Sizes Welcome.” Kent, WA Call (253)813-8580
What drew me about this class was the instructor’s obvious desire to put people’s fears at ease when considering belly dancing. She makes a point of welcoming all weights, ages and skill levels on her extremely thorough class website. An international level competition coach and competitor, Saqra teaches a style that samples steps from Egypt, Turkey, India, and Persia, as well as other regions. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes for your progression. Saqra warns that the ore advanced classes becomes “killer workouts.” No previous dance experience is required for beginners classes. Advanced registration is recommended, either through the website, or by stopping by one of the classes, as spaces do fill up. However, stop by anyway, even if you don’t manage to preregister, to see if there is room. Classes are incredibly affordable, and any equipment you might need is provided for you, so check it out.
