Best Free Math Sites for School
When finding a math site that is right for your student, consider which of the following criteria are most important in a free math site. Also, use a math site which accommodates different age groups if there is more than one student at home who will be using the site.
Advertisements: Are there advertisements on the math web site? Are they age- and content-appropriate? Do the advertisements offer to do students’ homework for a fee-(yes, there was a math site which had such an ad)?
Math Content:Is there enough related math content on the site to deem it worthwhile for math homework?
Math Grade Level Does the site specify the grade of its math audience? Is there a separate page or pages for pre-school, elementary, middle , high school and college?
Math Homework Help If Homework help is available, are you comfortable with it? Does the homework help simply give the student the math answer or help the student figure it out?
Math Games Are math games available on the free math web site? Do the games require a download? Or if you’d rather have your student studying, verify the site has no math games.
Technology Cruise through the math site to see if Flash or Java or Adobe Acrobat need to be downloaded if they are not already on your computer.
Web Site Navigation Is the site easy to navigate? Is the layout intuitive? Is the page clean or is it cluttered and distracting? Is the search feature prominent?

A+ Math is a math sites for grades 2-8 which features flash cards, math games, customizable worksheets and a homework helper. The homework helper is more like a homework checker. Type in the equation and the homework helper lets the student know if the answer is correct. The homework helper on this free math web site covers Arithmetic, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division – with and without a remainder. In the homework helper section also find step-by-step solutions, and interactive addition and multiplication tables. The site does contain advertising for other math related sites. Grade: B
MathForum Before you visit any other math sites, bookmark this incredible free math site. This free math web site is run by the Drexel School of Education at Drexel University, and it shows. The site is divided by age groups: elementary, middle or high school, plus college and beyond.
Features include a FAQ section like no others. Not only does it cover classic problems and formulas, the FAQ on this free math sites covers zero, false proofs, Pi and word problems.
The archive on this free math web site neatly selects answers to commonly asked math questions about the basics such as algebra, arithmetic, decimals, math history, and measurement to the more complex number sense/number theory and probability/statistics.
But wait, there’s more on this free math web site. There are math puzzles to challenge the student. There is a math library and a quick reference guide. The archive is searchable and if you cannot find an answer in all of these informative pages, write to Dr. Math.

Customize flashcards on this free math site for general math (grades 1-5), money math and time math (grades 1-2). Younger students will need help navigating as the site is graphic-free and not intuitive. The site is ad-free however this free math site does have a store. Grade: B
Mrs. Glosser’s MathGoodies – is a free math site which serves students, parents and teachers, each with their own sections. MathGoodies is for middle schoolers and up. Topics on the student section of this free math web site include geometry topics, number theory, percent and pre-algebra. Goodies include free interactive math lessons, math puzzles and math worksheets. This free web site does run a lot of JavaScript.
The site does contain advertising there are CDs based on the site for sale. Pages load quickly and the student pages are easy to navigate. Grade: B+
The Math Worksheet Site is a great free web site for parents and educators. Many basic worksheets are free and there is a subscription option available. You will find yourself going back to this free web site to print more and more worksheets. The worksheet changes each time, even if you choose the same exact topic. Topics on this free math web site include arithmetic, subtraction, multiplication, division, mixed problems, measurement, telling time and the one hundred chart. The site is ad-free, and easy to navigate. Grade: A
Word Problems for Kids – Help students overcome word problem anxiety and prepare them for standardized tests with this free math web site. Word problems are broken down by grade, from fifth grade through grade 12. Students may click on the “hint” if they are completely stumped and click the “answer” to see if they’re right. Any student will easily navigate this site. Word Problems for Kids was established with support from Industry Canada and is located at St. Francis Xavier University. Grade: B+
Geometry Online is a free math web site of activities for middle or high school geometry students. Interesting topics include geometry history, hidden irrationals, hidden polygons, impossible triangles and the Golden Ratio. The free math web site is ad-free and easy to navigate for the student user. Grade: B+
Introduction to Geometry is a ThinkQuest site, written by students for students. This free math web site is a great introduction to geometry, as well as a great refresher. Topics include points, lines, planes, space, postulates and theorems, proofs, plus sample problems and a glossary. The site is mostly text, which is a drawback to understanding the subject matter. FactMonster – The math page on FactMonster covers numbers, measurement, tables and formulas, money, factors and fractions and include math flashcards. Students will enjoy the colorful pages and fun approach to learning that embodies FactMonster. The site is easy to navigate. A bonus to using this free math site is that as part of a bigger site, FactMonster relates any given topic to others on its site. For example, a page on world money in the math section relates and links to the Euro, and U.S. Money history. FactMonster’s approach to educating students online in this way is unique, yet incredible intuitive. It provides a train of thought, a path and a more well-rounded approach to math.
