Best Places for Singles to Live in Wilmington

Along the southeastern coastline of North Carolina lies the beautiful city of Wilmington. With low crime rates, good air quality, and tons of leisure and cultural activities, Wilmington makes a great place for singles to live!

I was single once, so I know first hand how well this city welcomes unmarried and non-dating people. I’ve compiled two of the better places in Wilmington for such singles to live.

YULAN DRIVE DUPLEXES

If you want to skip the whole apartment living, then choose a duplex! You don’t have to hear neighbors walking around or talking above or below you.

In the Silva Terra community, off of Carolina Beach Road, you will find Yulan Drive. Along this road are 20 or so duplex units that would be an excellent home. Though the duplex community does not have a name, I will simply refer to them as Yulan Drive duplexes.

Each unit is constructed of brick, has a paved driveway for at least 3 cars, and each shares a huge front- and backyard of green grass. The home is an estimated 900 square feet and interior layouts vary by duplex. Our home had 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a large living room, dining area, kitchen, pantry, and washer/dryer hookups in the kitchen. It also had a front porch, back porch, small cement patio, and storage shed. The properties are managed by Century 21 Sweyer as well as Wilmington Realty. Average rent ranges from $575 to $650.

This area is extremely quiet and has little to no crime or traffic. Kids ride their bikes around the block and singles ride their bikes or walk their dogs, even late at night. Yulan Drive is located in a moderate to highly populated subdivision of single-family homes. If you chose to live in a duplex here, you would be close to busy Carolina Beach Road, but nestled behind the tall pine trees and thick shrubs that you won’t be bothered by the noise. Walmart, Advance Auto, restaurants, banks, beaches, and downtown are within a very close drive.

If I ever moved back to Wilmington, I would definitely live in the duplexes there again.

NEW HANOVER VILLAGE

Another wonderful place off Carolina Beach Road for singles to live is New Hanover Village Townhomes. They are located on Wellington Avenue, which is convenient to New Hanover Regional Hospital, restaurants, banks, and downtown shops and nightlife. Many businesses are within walking distance!

You can pick between a 2 or 3 bedroom townhouse, ranging in size from 900 to 1250 square feet. Each comes with walk-in closets, dishwasher, carpeting, ceiling fans, and washer/dryer hookups. The kitchen is large, white, and well-lit. There’s also a deck and balcony. There’s not much of a yard, but there’s ample space to tinker in a small flower garden if you wanted. Many of the town homes come pre-landscaped, so check with your landlord before tilling up the grass. Parking is for the entire community, with space for guests and visitors. Here at New Hanover Village you can also take a swim in the large- sized pool or sunbathe on the patio.

Average rent ranges from $700 to $800, with flexible lease terms. Cats and dogs are accepted here, but you are limited to two pets.

Many of your neighbors at New Hanover Village will be other singles, many who are hospital employees. There are also small families that live here as well.

At New Hanover Village there is little crime. You will immediately feel safe and you don’t have to worry about your home being robbed or your car being broken into. Thru traffic can be a pain, especially since some people use it as a cut-through to and from Carolina Beach Road and 17th Street.

Again, Wilmington is a magical place for singles to live. There is a bustling nightlife, tons of things to enjoy, loads of open space to roam around in, and two beautiful beaches close by to hang out at. Take it from me, both Yulan Drive duplexes and New Hanover Village townhouses are the two best places for singles to call home. You will love it at either place!
