Best Places to Shop in the Schenectady Capital District

Now that the holiday season is upon us, we all have to make the dreaded trip to the crowded malls. In the Capital District there are three major malls to choose from:

Colonie Center

Crossgates mall

Rotterdam Square mall

Each of these malls can offer a unique and enjoyable shopping experience.

Colonie Center has two levels and four department stores including: Boscov’s, Christmas Tree Shops, Macy’s and Sears. It also has 120 specialty stores such as: American Eagle Outfitters, Casual Corner, and Victoria’s Secret. You can also find some really cool gifts at the many music and electronics shops in Colonie Center: such as F.Y.E., Musicland, and Radio Shack. During the holiday season Colonie Center is offering free gift wrapping located on the upper level near Macy’s.

Crossgates mall
You better have you walking shoes on if you’re planning on visiting Crossgates mall. It is the largest mall in the Capital District; it is 1.6 million square feet, and two levels. Crossgates has eight sit-down restaurants including: Friendly’s, and Ruby Tuesday. There are also eight department stores: such as Macy’s, JC Penny, Filenes, and Best Buy just to name a few. You’re sure to find a movie of your choice with their 18 movie screens. Along with their 250 shops, they’ve also added a few new stores including: Pet Company, The Disney Store and Coach.

The Rotterdam Square Mall has three department stores. Theses stores include: T. J. Max, Kmart, Sears and Filenes. Although the mall is only one level it is home to over eighty stores, such as American Eagle Outfitters, Bath & Body and Claire’s Boutique. Not only will you find some yummy treats in the food court, but you’ll also find a beautiful carousel. The Rotterdam Square mall has two sit down restaurants: Friendly’s and 99 Restaurant & Pub. Rotterdam Square also has a post office located right inside the mall. This is very convenient if you have gifts to mail out. Given the eclectic mix of restaurants, shops and department stores within these malls, you’re sure to find a gift for everyone on your list.
