Bierkraft: A Haven in Brooklyn for Beer and Cheese Lovers

Located in the popular Park Slope section of Brooklyn is a store that brings a tear of happiness to the eye of anyone with a love of beer, cheese, gourmet meat or game, hard to come by classy snacks, or fine chocolates. Bierkraft is located at 191 5th Avenue and is easily accessible by subway as it is only one block from the Union Street Station on the R, M line or a short walk from the Atlantic/Pacific Street station, the largest transit hub in Brooklyn. Boasting a whopping selection of imported and domestics beers (currently over 850 varieties, that number grows as quickly as they can make room) the majority of which are cold there is something for everyone and every palate, including gluten free brews. Arranged by country the refrigerators are remarkably organized and well-stocked with tried and true favorites as well as some hard to come by micro-brews that just might surprise you.

The cheese selection is enormous as well with over 200 varieties, all available for sampling. With selections ranging from all over the world it is easy to find just what you’re looking for or a new flavor if you don’t have a particular cheese in mind. Fine chocolate, not to be outdone, is not quite as abundant as far as numbers, but the quality and range are something to behold. Currently they carry Dolfin, Galler, Scharffen Berger, and Nirvana among others. If you are the kind to be easily overwhelmed by so much choice, fear not, the staff is always willing and able to help and very rarely steers you wrong. If you’re interested in learning about beer and cheese pairings be sure to stop by on Tuesdays evenings for a free, informal tasting held weekly at 7:00pm. Spaces are limited and seats fill up quickly, so it’s best to arrive a bit early in order to secure a spot. Bierkraft also boasts a growler service with up to 9 beers available at very reasonable prices that features a pressurized filling machine to prevent spoilage built by one of their own employees. A growler (that’s a 64 ounce jar of beer for those that are unfamiliar with the term) makes a fabulous addition to their custom gift baskets as well. So, the next time a simple Budweiser isn’t enough to quench your thirst or you’re contemplating a cheese course for a swanky dinner party make sure to pop into this Brooklyn gem. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
