For Example, one of the mountain bike trails I found to be closer than the others in North Georgia is Yellow River. It is located in Snellville, GA, which is in the Atlanta Metro area.

The Yellow River bike trail is fun and fast. This great urban trail consists of two loops. The River Loop is the fastest and easiest. It is approximately 3.8 miles of single track with very little climbing. You can ride approximately 3.8 miles in well under 30 minutes. The trail winds its way past the river three times.

There is beautiful scenery on the bike trail, if you are not biking too fast. The River Loop is well marked. If you are just starting in the cycling sport, then this trail is for you. On the other hand, across the street is the Green Circle Loop. This loop is not as well marked. It is quite possible to get off the main trail, but you will still end up on the road eventually. This trail is shorter, about 3.6 miles. It seems it will take you longer to ride due to its decent lung-busting climbs and tricky switchbacks. The Green Circle Loop is mostly single track with a little double track mixed in as connectors. If you are looking for a deep cardiovascular workout, then this loop is a necessary ride.

The PATH Foundation and the city of Atlanta recently constructed Chastain Greenway Trail, a 3.3-mile loop around Chastain Park in northwest Atlanta. They also plan to develop more trails throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. The project will build upon existing on and off-street bike routes and comprise some of the approximately 350 miles of on-street bike routes to be constructed in Atlanta during the next 15 years.

The city of Atlanta also has a new Bicycle Parking Program, and there are now nearly 400 bike racks in public spaces throughout the city. The city of Atlanta has also begun the New Sidewalk Construction Program, which anticipates the construction of more than 100 miles of new sidewalks in the city over the next 15 years. Of the 136 projects now included in this program, more than 100 are located adjacent to bus routes and 10 link to transit stations. By linking residences to schools, shopping opportunities and mass transit, these projects intend to improve the safety and accessibility of the bike trails and pedestrian network throughout Atlanta.
