Bushel Basket Cleaning Bucket

There are lots of different ways to reuse a bushel or peck basket so there’s never a reason to get rid of one unless it’s severely damaged. You can get a bushel or peck basket at an orchard when you buy fruit or at a farm and garden store anytime. If you happen to have one, you can turn it into a toy box, a potato or onion basket, a basketball goal, or any number of other things. But one of the handiest things that can be made from a bushel basket is a cleaning bucket. It can easily hold all of your cleaning supplies so you don’t have to store some things in the kitchen and other supplies in the bathroom. Plus, when you clean, all of your stuff is in one portable container.

A bushel basket is rather large so you might opt for a peck basket instead. But the wooden slat basket is sturdy, already has a handle, and can be made into a car cleaning bucket, a house cleaning bucket, or even a home maintenance kit. With it, you can store extra light bulbs, electrical tape, and more. Decide on the basket and then decide if you want to pretty it up. If so, you can use decorative tape, rubber stamps, stencils and markers, or ordinary spray paint. It’s also fun to remove labels from cleaning products and decoupage them onto the wood. Finish with a coat or two of a clear-coat product.

Sure, you can put all sorts of spray products, mopping formulas, and cleaning rags in the bushel basket itself. But you can keep even more products organized when you make a wrap for the basket. Cut a piece of felt and then glue or sew pockets onto it. Tie or Velcro the band around the basket. The pockets can hold sponges, folded rags, a toothbrush for cleaning small places, a bleach pen, and other items.
