Cabinet Door Hanger for Bathroom Necessities

What junk or secondhand store doesn’t have an old cabinet or cabinet door? And what small bathroom doesn’t need extra storage and hanger space? Put the cabinet door and small bathroom together and you have a unique hanger to hold towels, mirror and more.

Any old -or new – cabinet door will do for this project, so long as you have enough space in the bathroom to accommodate it. Choose a door that will go well with your own bathroom decor or refinish the door to fit in well. You can cover the cabinet door with wallpaper, fabric or just paint it.

Remove small door knobs which are round and replace with one that is long and allows an open area between the handle and the cabinet door. Or, mix small round knobs with long knobs to hold an assortment of items. If you need pegs more than handles, add just roundish knobs all over the cabinet door.

Add the handles in any arrangement you wish, but make sure you don’t put too many handles on a small cabinet door. The purpose is to space them and allow for hanging several different items in the bathroom. On a small cabinet door a nice arrangement is to place one or two long handles, horizontally, at the top of the door. If you add one handle at the top, add two at the center; if you use two handles at the top, use one in the center. Then add one or two more, depending upon the design you’ve chosen, at the bottom of the cabinet door.

Hang the cabinet door on the wall of the bathroom with nails or hinge it to make it appear to be a cabinet. Use the handles or knobs to hold items like a mirror with handle, towel, washcloth, shower cap, jewelry, tube-type items like hair gel or toothpaste, or even a robe.

The cabinet door craft can be done in other rooms as well. Try one in the bedroom to hold scarves, jewelry, ties, wallet and jacket. Make one for a child’s room to hold belts, hair ties, gloves, umbrella and other child items. Use a small cabinet door in the kitchen, where there is no cabinet, to hang cooking utensils. You can use a small cabinet door for a small room but larger ones hold much more and are perfect for a bare wall in most any room.

Believe it or not the cabinet door makes a beautiful gift. Decorate the door to suit the occasion, such as a newborn baby, and hang a pacifier on a ribbon, bibs, one-piece outfits, and rattles. Or make one for Grandma using just knobs, then hang small picture frames with ribbon.

You can even use the cabinet door arrangement in a garage. It’ll hold plenty of tools and fits right in to the decor, if you want to call it that. The cabinet door is easy to mount and will make a unique piece for many areas in your home.
