Camping on the Washington Peninsulas

Fort Worden State Park
200 Battery Way
Port Townsend, WA 98368

The movie ‘Officer and a Gentleman’ was filmed here. Beautiful, beautiful place. Alot of officer homes are renovated for viewing pleasure. There’s quite a few museums here. Beautiful landscaping. Campsites, etc. Stay in a hostel for cheap, sleep in a tent, or rent a home. The variety is here. Plus, there’s a great Marine Center worth viewing. There is also a fantastic beach to walk along. Check out the bunker. The list goes on and on. An easy way to spend the day or longer. I highly recommend it here. The views are simply exquisite.

Marrowstone Island
Marrowstone Island, WA…

“Wonderful biking and hiking trails here. The bicycle trail (really a road) is great for beginners since there is mild, continuous elevation with flatlands in between. Just don’t get caught complaining around the experienced bikers. The trail is a breeze to them! Campsites – some with utilities. Great battery forts, gun emplacements, and bunkers to explore. Alot of history here. This is a perfect way to spend the day. Plus, it is free. Showers, boat launch, etc. Very rocky beach.

Salt Creek Recreation Area
Port Angeles, WA 98382

The tide pools and WWII bunkers are “can’t be missed!” here. It is a great place to get a sense of the area’s history. There’s also camping, playgrounds, beach access, etc. The beach is fun and relaxing to walk along. Great views.
Cool place to go. Quiet and pretty.

Dungeness Recreation Area
Sequim, WA 98382

The Wildlife Refuge here is a great way to spend some time at. This area is noted for their annual bird migration with a variety of species paying a visit for a bit. It is fun to see. The trail leading to the beach (through the woods) is relaxing and beautiful. The hike to the lighthouse (all in the open) is 5 miles one way. Be prepared. Looks are deceiving here. From the beginning of the trail, the lighthouse looks just in reach. Scenery is beautiful, but be in shape. There’s also camping, beach access, playgrounds, and many other trailheads.

There’s alot to see and do at this place. Plus, it’s usually sunny. (Sequim is located in the ‘banana belt’ meaning it is noted for the large amount of sun it receives).
