Can Math, the Moms & Chris Daughtery, Save a Life?

Years ago, I worked at MTV. It was the most fun I ever had on a job. It felt, at the time, like an extension of high school camaraderie with one added kick. I bumped into major celebrities in the hallway, and worked with them as if they were the guy next door. I fondly remember bumping into Steven Tyler in the MTV lobby; dancing with Downtown Julie Brown as her cue card girl on Club MTV; or going to a Rolling Stones rehearsal at the Video Music Awards. It was a surreal experience, and it was also a time in my life to cherish. As life went on, taking different twists and turns. I left the entertainment world and started my own non profit, Save 1 Person ( www.Save1person.org ). At Save 1 person. each week in the media, we highlight one person who needs a medical miracle. We try to save that life through audiences world wide, whether through radio, print, social media, etc. One twist and turn, included on this journey, was the birth of my beloved son, Raphael. This event made all my different worlds and experiences collide together in one big tapestry of life that’s starting to make sense through mommy blogging.

In the last decade I’ve been involved with charities, saving lives, and serious stuff. In the last year and a half I got involved with mommy blogging, through Esti Berkowitz’s Primetimeparenting.com. Esti had me cover the Moms.com events. Through this avenue of blogging I’ve been covering major celebrities and events. I feel blessed to be covering these events and being able to tie them into larger purposes like saving lives and supporting great causes. Covering this event reminded me of my MTV days. I was so happy to relive, perhaps briefly, that high of watching a great performer show his G-d given talents to a small, intimate group.

On 11/21/2013, I watched Chris Daughtry accoustically perform songs from his newly-released album Baptized . His voice is amazing, and it was a true privilege to lose myself in his performance and have time stand still as he performed several of his hits. This event was held by moms.com and was also a fundraiser for National Museum of Mathematics, MoMath. MoMath’s mission, according to their website, is : Mathematics illuminates the patterns that abound in our world. The National Museum of Mathematics strives to enhance public understanding and perception of mathematics. Its dynamic exhibits and programs will stimulate inquiry, spark curiosity, and reveal the wonders of mathematics. The museum’s activities will lead a broad and diverse audience to understand the evolving, creative, human, and aesthetic nature of mathematics.

Can math, Chris Daughtery, the Moms, save a life through math? I don’t know that this one will literally save a life. I do know it adds to the spice of life, showing math in a fun, innovative way to children and parents alike. I also know that everything is tied into a bigger purpose.
