Caulk Singles by GE: An Avid Do-It-Yourselfer’s Review
GE Caulk Singles are sold at several home improvement stores, including Lowe’s, True Value, Do it Best, and Ace Hardware. I went to two different Lowe’s before I found one that carried them. The GE Caulk Singles are still a new product so not everyone carries them yet. Once I found the Caulk Singles I was a little surprised by their price. The Ge Caulk Singles cost almost $2.50 for only 1.25 ounces. I realized this is a product that you would only want to use on very small projects, it would cost way to much money to caulk a whole window. Fortunately I only needed to re-caulk the one side of my window so I still decided to try the GE Caulk Singles.
I bought the paintable white Caulk Single and got to work on my window. The directions were very clear and the Caulk Single was very easy to use. You just cut the top off the package and apply a thin bead of caulk. The bead of caulk stayed thin and even just like I needed it to. The unfortunate part was if I needed a little extra caulk I was out of luck. The Ge Caulk Single was easy to use, and did make the job quick and easy. I was happy for $2.50 and a small amount of effort I was able to fix my window, and make it look nice again.
While the GE Caulk Singles are easy to use, I don’t think that they are worth the money. For $3.00, only .50 cents more I can purchase I 6 ounce squeezable tube of caulk that would be enough caulk for several jobs, or one big job. The Caulk Singles are easy to use, but once you use the tubes for a couple of minutes they also become simple to use. I couldn’t imagine trying to do a big job with the GE Caulk Singles you would spend a fortunate buying little packets, when you could just buy one tube of caulk. GE’s advertising is playing on the fact that most people think they have to buy caulk and a caulking gun to do any home improvement job, when really there are other products out there that do not require a caulk gun.
Overall if you are thinking about purchasing GE Caulk Singles, I would consider what kind of project you will be using them on. If you only have one small home improvement project, then these might be perfect for you. If you are a home improvement junkie like me and plan on doing bigger projects, or other projects that will also require caulk then I would recommend going with a different product. The 1.25 ounces is simply not enough product for bigger jobs. I think the GE Caulk Singles is an innovative idea, but it is just to expensive for most jobs. I think most people would be better off buying a bigger squeeze tube of caulk.
