Cheap Decorating Ideas with a Tablecloth

Have you ever seen a beautiful tablecloth and wondered what you could do with it? The possibilities are endless when it comes to decorating with tablecloths. If you find a pretty one at a great price, grab it!

If you have large windows, tablecloths are a great way to cover them cheaply. It is easy to sew a hem and slip the rod through but if you would like to add a little more style, why not use a strip of leather or some pretty ribbon to attach the table cloth to the curtain rod. If a valance is more your style, hem the tablecloth until you get the desired length. With valances, it is easy to complete a whole room of windows from just one tablecloth.

A tablecloth can easily be cut and used to cover pillows for a couch or bed. If you can sew a straight stitch, you can have a beautiful new look for a great price. You can either cover an old pillow to give it a fresh look or pick up a pillow form from a local craft supply or fabric shop. If you would like to dress the pillow up a bit more, add some ribbon or a matching trim. If sewing is not up your alley, a piece of tablecloth can be folded like an envelope around a square pillow and held in place with a ribbon. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

If your dining room chairs have a fabric seat, it is easy to pop the seat out and give it an updated look in no time. If the cushion itself needs replaced, a piece of foam can be purchased at a local fabric store. You can give your dining room chairs a completely new look in less than 10 minutes per chair. The new fabric can be held in place with a staple gun or hot glue.

If your floors are in need of a quick pick me up, a floor mat may be the perfect solution. While most tablecloths are not thick enough on their own, they can easily be adhered to a heavy duty backing cloth with an iron on adhesive. A quick hem and you have a beautiful new floor cloth for much less than a traditional rug.

A duvet cover is another great project to use a tablecloth for. Tablecloths come in so many different fabrics and textures, this is a quick way to update your bedroom. Simply take a flat bed sheet and pin it to a tablecloth with both back sides facing. Stitch on three sides and put it over your comforter. To enclose the duvet cover, you can add buttons, Velcro or matching ribbon for an added finishing touch.
