Cheap Places to Eat in Manhattan
New York City is centered around some type of cash exchange, there are still a few diamonds in the rough that don’t cost too much to dig forâÂ?¦Croxley Ales – (Lower East Side) This bar has one of the cheapest things I love mostâÂ?¦10 cent wings!* Anytime I’m feening for a big meal that I’m sure to enjoy, I run over to this well-known bar and order 40 wings for four bucks! But that’s not the only thing on the menu. There are a mix of enjoyable appetizers and drinks that anybody who is not satisfied by 10 cent wings can enjoy. From a cheap and huge plate of nachos, to an even bigger bowl of fish n’ chips, Croxley Ales does bar food the right wayâÂ?¦BIG ‘N CHEAP! But their drinks are just as impressive and just as cheap. Their Kool-Aid mixed drinks are also well worth the price, and they have a world renowned collection of beers and wines, many of which only cost $4. The atmosphere at Croxley Ales is as lively as the food. Being in the East Village, it is has great diversity and conversation runs ramped. People seem to be quite friend there and are willing to talk to strangers more than the people they come with. And there is a garden in the back where people can go outside and eat and drink, and it’s get chattier outside than it does in the bar. (*$0.10-wings are available from 5p.m.-1a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, during the day on Saturdays, and from noon to 1a.m. on Sundays)
Jimbo’s – (East Harlem) You talk about a selection? This place has it all! This is your mom and dad’s old coffee-shop style house right in the heart of East Harlem. I personally enjoy going there for the cheap breakfast where I munch on my usual sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. But it’s not just any, old, sandwich though. Maybe they sprinkle a little something extra in mine, or maybe they just put their foot in all the food, but whenever I get something from Jimbo’s I get the itis before I even finish eating. The best part about this place though is its array of foods. It has sandwiches, burgers, loose meat, breakfast food, salads, and more. It is cheap, good ,old, home cooking away from home. So if your local diner doesn’t fluff pancakes like your mom, or the eatery around the corner doesn’t know how to cook loose-meat sandwich, come holler at Jimbo’s and they’ll send you home sleepy.
Town Tavern – (Village) What does this place have that I love? That’s rightâÂ?¦cheap 10 cent wings Saturday! Their collection of food also includes a great burger, even better fries and some real nice nachos. On Saturdays they also have $2-Twisted Iced Teas which are show to get you a lil’ buzz after a few, and they also come in an array of flavors. The bar is set up for a lot of sports watching with numerous flat screen televisions on the bottom and top floors. The conversation is lively and there are all sorts of characters that come up in that place. From NBA ballers, to lesbian couples, this place has a diverse bunch of people that are just looking for a great time. So if you want cheap food and cheap thrills, head over to Town Tavern!
DallasBBQ – (Various Manhattan Locations) If you haven’t been here, either you just moved to New York, or you’ve been living under a rock. Either way, get to Dallas BBQ as soon as you can because not only does it having a dining atmosphere and exquisite food at cheapprices, but it has food and drinks that you just won’t find at too many places in Manhattan. Yes, Virgil’s and Dinosaur BBQ are comparable restaurants, but their prices aren’t. Dallas BBQ will give you a full belly for $8, a feast for $12, and doggie bag for $15. And they just don’t give you big portions of food, but they give you cheap portions of food done right! Their ribs are remarkable. Their chili is crushing. And their steak is staggering. Their frozen Texas-sized alcohol drinks are the best in Manhattan. I like the Apple Martini, but most of the people I go with are hooked on the Blue Hawaii. Either way, you can’t go wrong. The place is always full of loud, boisterous, people having a good time, but it never really annoys anybody. It just makes you want to have a good time, too. And if you go, you certainly will have a good time enjoying the cheap food, the great service and the big drank.
