Child ID Card Basics

We use ID Cards in every facet of our daily lives, from work and traveling to driving. We can usually be identified at any time if there is an accident or any type of catastrophe. Can we say the same for our children? Unlike us, they don’t usually have ID Cards. If there’s an accident or if they get lost, we may not know for hours.

While the idea of an ID Card for a child seems somewhat strange, it makes a lot of sense. It is an easy way for the child to be identified in case of an emergency, and a good way to ensure that your child is a little bit safer.

While your child may already have a school ID Card, this usually has only their name and grade, not their date of birth, fingerprint, address, and all the other relevant information someone would need to contact you in case of an emergency or unforeseen event.

Some ID Cards carry medical information, which is incredibly useful if your child is allergic to any medications or suffers from any illness. Other ID Cards have all the vital statistics of your child, such as birth date, age, height, weight, hair color, thumbprint, and more.

The standard ID card for a child will usually have all of the above including a photo of the child and the contact information of the parents. This enables authorities or concerned citizens to contact you directly in case of an emergency.

Ensuring that you and your child have a copy of the same ID card eliminates the need to prove you’re the parent if you have to identify your child for any reason.

For example, if your child gets lost and is taken to the police station, you can show the authorities your copy of your child’s card, making the release process far less stressful. They will know right away that you are the child’s parent and they will probably forego many of the steps needed to release your child to you.

Child ID Cards should be laminated and durable, immune to dirty fingers and lots of abuse. Laminated pvc plastic cards are a great choice because of their imperviousness to most conditions.

Ultimately, your child is probably safer with an ID Card than without one, no matter how old they are. Any child under the age of sixteen is an ideal candidate for a Child ID Card, and it will enhance and aid in keeping your child safe and easily identifiable.
