Classic Mops Vs. Swiffer Wet Jets

When I was younger, I loved watching my mother mop. This was actually one chore I wanted to do rather than washing dishes which was one of my main chores. Something about those big rubber yellow gloves squeezing the excess water out of the mop and then the actual mopping itself made me wish I was old enough to do it. Not to mention the fact that the entire house would smell of pine cleaner once she was done.

Well as I got older, I was allowed to start mopping, once my mom was certain that the bucket of water wouldn’t end up spilled on the floor. Although by the time I was allowed to start mopping, I wasn’t as fascinated with it then. To me it was just another chore to do, although I still preferred it over washing a sink full of dirty dishes. Now that I have grown up and moved out on my own, there have been some changes in the way cleaning can go. While shopping for cleaning supplies, I originally bought the regular mop and bucket like my mom used when I was a kid. The first time I mopped my own place that was what I used, rubber gloves and all. However, the bending and twisting the mop out, dumping the dirty bucket and adding fresh cleaner to it to finish the chore I had started just didn’t appeal to me.

During my next trip to Wal-Mart, I went down the aisle with the cleaning products and saw the Swiffer Wet Jet. I had seen this on television commercials many times and since I had hardwood floors and no carpet, I decided to give it a try. The Swiffer Wet Jet has many different cleaning solutions to choose from. Whether you have hardwood floors, tile, or linoleum, there is a cleaning solution that will give your floors a great clean without leaving any residue behind. The thing I immediately liked was the fact that you don’t need a bucket or those yellow rubber gloves. The Swiffer is the easier way to mop. All you have to do is snap the handle in place which then stays in place for good, attach the solution bottle as instructed, and attach a swiffer pad to the velcro bottom of the mop. There’s also a place to attach swiffer scrub pads in case you have old gum or something stuck to your floor that you can’t get up with just the mop. Once you have everything attached, just press the button and out squirts the cleaning solution on your floor for you to go over with the swiffer pad. The Swiffer Wet Jet cuts your mopping time dramatically. You can get through multiple rooms before you need to change the pad (depending on how dirty your floors were to begin with). I can get through my entire apartment with just one pad. Once you’re done, just unattach the pad from the velcro bottom and toss it in the trash. There are no buckets to dump, no water to change, no mop to wring out, and no need to clean for the next use. Just put the Swiffer away in a closet or something. The solution bottle stays in place and doesn’t leak.

Now I find myself being like my mom when it comes to mopping. My nephew happens to love my Swiffer Wet Jet and always goes to get it out of the closet when he comes to visit. Although I know he can’t possibly make a mess, I make hi sit down while I mop the floors. It actually doesn’t feel much like mopping at all. Now that I have a Swiffer Wet Jet, my old standard mop and bucket has been retired to the closet. For anyone who likes to clean with ease and convenience, I’d recommend buying a Swiffer. In addition to mops, Swiffer also makes the Swiffer Sweeper which can replace that annoying broom and dust pan and a Swiffer Duster which can retire your normal dust rags. I’d say Swiffer is sweeping up to be a very good cleaner indeed.
