Clean Up Your Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies can become a mess. Half empty bottles turned over with contents spilled onto other cleaning supplies, drips and leaks on storage shelves. Mops, rags and sponges creating a dirty, germy mess of drips in the floor or under cabinets. Use these four tips to clean up your cleaning supplies and keep them organized.

Lazy Susan

A lazy susan ( small, round rotating shelf ) is an ideal way to store often used items. A quick spin and you can find the exact cleanser you need, plus a lazy susan takes up very little space on a cabinet shelf. The plastic shelving design also makes a lazy susan easy to wash and dry when the need arises.

Drip Dry

Wet mops, sponges and cleaning rags need a place to drip dry without creating a germ infested puddle. Sponges can be tossed in the dishwasher, rags in the washer and mops hung up outside to dry, that is if space permits. Wash sponges and rags in hot soapy water after use, rinse in scalding water and place in counter top dish drainer to dry. Find an out-of-sight wall location and fasten a hanger on the wall so the mop can be hung up to dry. Place a small tray or waste basket on the floor under the mop to catch drips. Use transparent tape to attach a piece of aluminum foil on the wall directly behind the mop head to protect the wall.

Hanging Hooks

In the same out-of-sight location used to air dry the mop, install enough hanging hooks for broom, dustpan, Swiffer and other cleaning tools. This will keep the tools off the floor, neatly organized and easy to grab. Install a shelf above the hooks to hold duster, floor cleaner and like items. A ready-made coat hanging shelf works perfectly for this. It contains four to six hooks, has a shelf on top and mounts to the wall with two screws. Place paper towel or a piece of aluminum foil on shelf before placing cleaning items so cleaning the shelf will be as easy as changing out the paper or foil.

Recycled Cookie Sheets

Store large container of liquid cleaners, like laundry detergent and bleach, on old cookie sheets for easy drip and spill cleanup. Cookie sheets keep drips and spills corralled and make cleanup a breeze.
