Clermont, Florida – An Area for Peaceful Living

Clermont, Florida is a glorious city housed within Lake County. Lake County received its name because there are more than 1,000 lakes and bodies of water within the vicinity of the county lines. Clermont has changed since the formation of Lake County in 1840 and is now a prospering area that invites families for every reason possible: homes, jobs, activities, schools, and peace of mind.

Clermont is conveniently located to Orlando and area attractions. In addition, the city has many features that are unique and quaint. The growth in the area has been phenomenal and what is most interesting in the growth is that there is a large variety of people coming to the area to find homes, young and old.

Homes are conveniently located to shopping for groceries and local department stores. Restaurants and other small businesses are coming in by the month, and the area offers almost anything a person could want.

The beauty of Clermont lies in the landscaping and the beauty of nature that existed before the exponential growth boom that has hit Clermont . The area lakes offer areas for fishing and boating; parks offer opportunities for camping, and play areas for children with families.

One of the most popular state parks is Lake Louisa. The park is most popular for it’s six lakes and is the largest lake in the chain of thirteen lakes connected by the Palatlakaha River. This park offers lake access from Lake Louisa, Hammond Lake, and Dixie Lake. Camping is available for tents, RV’s, or renting log cabins built for those that don’t like to “rough” out nature. The park has many walking trails that offer sightseeing opportunities. The park even has a very well rounded web site that you can print trail routes and bird watching worksheets for traveling through the park. The park also offers horseback riding, canoe rides, and festivals throughout the year. http://www.floridastateparks.org/lakelouisa/default.cfm

Palatlakaha Pals, aka, Park Pals is on the river and is an excellent play spot for children of all ages. They have a full-facility with pavilions, play equipment, soccer fields, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and the beauty that surrounds it. Park Pals also holds recreational programs/camps during the summer through the City of Clermont. While Palatlakaha Pals isn’t the only park within the Clermont area, it is by far the most impressive and the park that my children choose to attend most frequently.

Clermont has many rolling hill areas and is beautiful to drive through. In touring the area, you’ll find what you would expect in Florida: citrus crops. There are many areas throughout the city of Clermont to purchase and/or pick your own citrus. From blueberries (Saunder’s Berry Farm) to strawberries (Red Shed), and citrus (the Showcase of Citrus), you can find whatever suits your fancy as far as fruit is concerned. I’ve only listed a few of the most popular pick your own farms in the area, note that there are far more than this in the Clermont Area.

Located in Clermont is also the Lakeridge Winery, a hot spot for activities and events. They hold activities quite frequently, offering tours, wine tasting, picnics, and other events for families and travelers.

Other areas of interest include the Hall of Presidents, which is a wax museum showcasing the history of the white house and presidents. The National Training Center provides areas for Olympic training athletes to compete and practice. As a member you can even attend swimming events, races, and other events held throughout the year, including sport camps and kid activities. The City of Clermont holds several events throughout the year, their most popular being Pig on the Pond. There is a once a month Farmer’s Market held in historical downtown Clermont.

Restaurants of interest include Salvatore’s (gourmet Italian dining), and Santiago’s (Mexican Cuisine).

As a resident of Clermont, I spend most of my time within this area. I find many area attractions for myself and my children, we attend parks within the county regularly, and are close to everything we really need including restaurants, hospitals, doctors, grocery stores, and of course, our home.
