Creating Popup Menus in Fireworks

Creating Popup Menus in Fireworks can be done fairly quickly and easily once you get the hang of it. Popup menus are used to save room on a site that has many sub-categories or many links. Follow the steps below to create a popup menu and refer to the images to get a graphic look at how to make them.

Step 1 – Create a new canvas about 500 x 500 pixels.

Step 2 – Now make some buttons. What ever type you want, circle, text, or rectangle. You can go ahead and decorate them if you want. Once you have your buttons the way you want them, move on to step 3.

Step 3 – Click on the first button of your row of button. Once it is selected, go to the top of your window and click Edit > Insert > Hotspot. (Please see image 1)

Step 4 – Click on the hotspot so that it is selected and go to the top of your window and click Modify > Popup Menu > Add Popup Menu. (Please see image 2)

Step 5 – A dialog box will appear once you click on add popup menu. Type in the following:

Text Field – Type in what you want the link to say once it pops up.
Link Field – Type in the url for that option.

Once you have filled in these two fields, click the (+) button to add the popup. This process can be repeated for as many links as you need. Once you have finished making all your links, simply click next. (Please see image 3)

Step 6 – Now you will add effects to your menu. You have the choice to make the entries in your popup menu images or html and this is where you change the look of your font, color, etc. Once you have chosen all of that click Done or you can go on to the advance if you want to get more technical with it. Move on to step 7 to get in to the advance section. (Please see image 4)

Step 7 – In the advance section you can change the color of the border, outline, etc. Fill those options in to your liking and click next. (Please see image 5)

Step 8 – In the position section you can choose what position you want your menu to pop up in. On the side, underneath, and so on. Once you have finished that click Done. (Please see image 6)

Now you will see a blue line on top of your button. You can move that line around to get the menu to pop up however you want it.

You have to do each button in the menu the way we just did that one, Step 3 – 8.

And that is all there is to it. Have fun creating your new pop up menus.
