Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone vs Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera

In an attempt to start removing my fingernail polish without the addition of acetone I decided to try Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone and Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe. I chose to do this after reading some interesting material about Acetone. Acetone is strong solvent. It can dissolve items as sturdy as plastic and can even lead to death if consumed in large quantities. Although there have been no human studies on the long-term effects of acetone exposure, animal studies show nerve, kidney, and liver damage to be common side effects. Animals exposed to acetone also showed a higher number of birth defects and a lowered reproduction rate. Ok, I’ll stop there with all of the scary information. Anyway, it was all enough to make me start researching a trying a number of non-acetone finger nail polish removers. After all, the main exposure to acetone in my life was through fingernail polish remover. Non acetone finger nail polish removers like Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone and Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera also have a better smell than there more pungent and toxic acetone based counter parts.

I am basing my comparison of Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone Versus Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera on three factors: smell, how fast the non-acetone fingernail polish removers work, and price. Non acetone nail polish removers are notoriously slow to dissolve nail polish. Price is a factor because after all, most of use can’t afford to pay an arm and a leg for acetone free nail polish removers.

Speed

Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone versus Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera is not much of a battle. The Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover is hands down the faster of the two non acetone nail polish removers. With a little extra rubbing and a fully saturated cotton ball, I was able to remove even red fingernail polish more quickly with the Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover. Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera is by far a more gentle product. It does take time to remove darker and more colorful nail polish, as well as quite a few more cotton balls when you use the Nailtiques product. I do have to say that both Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone and Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera are both very good at removing clear and pale colors. So, if you only paint your nails clear polish or tend to wear more pastel nail polish colors you could go for either non acetone nail polisher removers. If you tend to wear darker more vibrant colors you will definitely need to stick with the Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone.

Smell

In the battle of smell the Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera is the clear winner. It advertises and delivers a somewhat non offensive fragrance while you are using it. The Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non-Acetone does not smell as bad as some of the other Cutex products that do contain acetone, but it does have a strong smell. The presence of aloe vera and other conditioners in the Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera might be the reason this product has a much better smell.

Cost

A 6 ounce bottle of Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover, Non Acetone costs about $2.30 at most grocery and drugstores in my area. A 6 ounce bottle of Nailtiques Non-Acetone Remover with Aloe Vera will cost you about $6.00. While this is a slightly pricey bottle of non acetone nail polish remover, it may be worth it for the better smell. Personally, I am not sensitive about the smell and prefer to go with the less expensive Cutex Quick and Gentle Nail Polish Remover.
