CyberHome DVD Player Review

The CyberHome CH-DVD 300/S is a compact and easy-to-manage DVD player, making it an excellent addition to a home entertainment center. Priced at around $30, this DVD player is perfect for the cash-challenged as well as the electronically impaired individual.

With simple set-up instructions, the system can be hooked up and ready to go in a matter of minutes. The power cord comes attached to the unit, so the cable cord is the only hook-up needed to begin viewing.

This DVD player is great in a family setting. It comes equipped with easy-to-use parental controls that help parents block DVDs with a particular rating. The buttons on the front of the unit, as well as the remote, are clearly marked for easy reading, and the standard remote buttons glow in the dark for quick location. The unit comes in two colors (silver and black), so it is sure to match most other entertainment systems.

Adding to the versatility of the unit is the various connection options available along the back of the player. A composite video/stereo audio A/V cable is included, but the player also includes s-video out, video out, coaxial digital out, and analog audio out connections. This assortment ensures that the DVD player can be hooked up to almost any television. This player supports NTSC, PAL, and P-SCAN television systems.

The size of the unit is a great asset to this DVD player. The player is about 9 inches wide, 2 inches high, and 9 inches deep, and weighs under 4 pounds, which is about half the size of most DVD players on the market. This scaled-down size, along with the simple hook-up instructions, makes it easy to move from room to room.

The remote control (which is also included) is palm-sized and lightweight. The range of the remote is considerably small, and must be no more than 7 feet way from and pointed directly at the unit to work properly. It controls most of the features of the DVD player. The standard menu, play, pause, stop, skip forward and back, rewind, and fast-forward buttons are included. The remote control also offers a slow button, which slows the play of the DVD up to 1/16th of the actual playing time. A zoom button allows the screen to be magnified up to four times, and a bookmark option saves up to up to twelve different scenes.

The system can function as a CD player as well. This DVD player has the ability to play a variety of formats including: DVD, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, JPG, DVD-R, and DVD-RW. The option to display digital photographs is also available. The quality of the picture and/or audio varies according to the quality of the format used. On average it is comparable to that of standard
cable television (not excellent but acceptable). A screen saver appears a few seconds after the DVD is stopped or paused. There is a slight delay between the end of the screen saver and the beginning of the playback; the same delay occurs at the start up of the unit. The machine is very quiet during playback, and sound distortion is minimal.

If you are looking for a functional DVD player at an affordable price the CyberHome CH-DVD 300/S is a great pick. With its simplistic operating instructions and minimal defects, I highly recommend this DVD player.
