Dance Schools of Denver, Colorado
Choosing a Dance School
When selecting a dance school, it is important to consider your reasons for taking lessons. Are you (or your child) already an advanced dancer, and interested in competing? Or are you simply interested in learning a little style, staying in shape, and having fun? Regardless of your goals, Little Theatre Culture Centers is the dance school to meet your needs, as their classes offer serious instruction and opportunities to perform, coupled with a fun and friendly atmosphere.
A Better School
Little Theatre’s philosophy stresses dance as a recreation, rather than as a sport, believing that students will take less away from instruction given in an intense environment. Rather than focusing on competition, Little Theatre focuses on the quality of instruction given to each student. However, even though Little Theatre does not teach to the goal of scoring well in a competition, the decision to compete always belongs to the student. Whether artistic or competitive, a student of Little Theatre can rest easy knowing that they are receiving the best instruction possible, because it is given with the art form in mind.
Types of Dance Instruction Offered
Little Theatre offers lessons in several different forms of dance: ballet, tap, and jazz. For those indecisive or well-rounded types, there are classes that combine both ballet and tap. By including classical, lyrical, and hip-hop styles in their jazz instruction, Little Theatre seeks to give credit to the variety of styles that make up this type of dance.
Little Theatre also offers gymnastics, music, and voice instruction.
Dance as a Performing Art
Although Little Theatre is not a competition-driven dance school, students have plenty of opportunity to grace the stage. Classes typically perform several times a year. Smaller shows may take place at the school itself or in a local mall, while more important performances take place in a theater at one of the local high schools. To cut down on costume expenses for their students, the school owns hundreds of costumes, which they provide for their students at each show. Whether students intend to eventually compete, or are simply enjoying dance as a recreation, these performances are valuable experiences.
