Decorate Your Master Bedroom: minimalist interior decorating creates beauty and space
A bedroom full of matching pieces can be boring. It can place limits on the decorating you can do and it doesn’t say much for your personal style. In addition, too many pieces of furniture can become a haven for clutter. The idea is to step back and see what pieces you can get rid of and what you can do with the space instead.
The first thing you may want to consider is what is being stored in the furniture. Hopefully, it is just your clothing. Next, take a look at your closet. How full is it? If you have, for example, dress pants folded in a drawer, do you have room to hang them? There are many different types of closet organizers sold at home improvement stores that can help you store more clothing in your closet. Many even have pull out drawers of their own that you can store small items in, such as undergarments or socks. If a closet organizer is out of your budget, you could consider plastic storage. Plastic storage carts that have drawers are just as good at holding clothing as your dresser. Your goal should be to get as much of your clothing as possible into your closet. If you can get it all, that’s better. Baskets are also great for storing smaller items of clothing. They can be sat on a shelf and pulled out when needed.
Once you are able to clear out most or all of your furniture, your next step will be to decide what to do with all of your free space. Vanity dressing tables are a great way to add some style to your room. You may also want to consider creating a sitting area. A couple of Queen Anne chairs with a round table between them look fabulous together. If your room isn’t big enough for that, you could consider a vanity bench for the end of the bed and one Queen Anne chair. Home improvement television programs and magazines are great for getting ideas. Don’t worry about copying someone else.
It’s going to be hard to give up bedside tables. They are usually needed for a lamp or alarm clock. If you need one on each side of your bed, consider using two that do not match. On one side, you could have a round table and on the other side a more square table. If you don’t like the idea of two different types of wood, you should consider a wrought iron table. They look great with anything, especially wood. One of each on either side of your bed can create a lot of drama. Don’t forget to add some greenery. Almost every room in your home should have a plant or some flowers and your bedroom is one of them.
There are many ways to dress up a bed if you don’t have a headboard that goes with your new room. Simply painting a rectangle above the bed and hanging some pictures that compliment the room on the painted part can add a lot of flair. If your bedroom is big enough to allow it, cater-cornering your bed and adding a tall tree or plant in the corner behind it is also a good look. Another idea is to upholster a piece of wood with a fabric that compliments your bedding and hanging it directly above your bed. A vertical, low hanging sconce is also a great above-the-bed piece.
With a little imagination, you can turn your bedroom from a bedroom to a room of interest that you just happen to also sleep in. Just because it is your bedroom doesn’t mean you have to have a traditional bedroom suit. Sitting areas, vanities, and even bookshelves can change the look of the room dramatically. Draw a picture of the room and draw in pieces you would like to have to see how they work. Remember, your pieces do not have to match exactly, they just need to compliment each other. Also keep in mind that the more of your clothing you get into your closet, the more space you will have to work with. And, how good will you feel about yourself when you donate that old bedroom furniture to charity? Not to mention, now that your clutter space is gone you will have no choice but to keep your room tidy. Now, how great will that be?
