Decorating a Nautical Themed Bathroom Cheap and Easy
Basic Supplies:
âÂ?¢ Silicon – Choose a thick silicon ‘glue’ in a tube for attaching finishing touches
 Masking tape
Half gallon of your favorite blue paint
Paint Roller and Tray, assorted paint brushes
Wash down the surfaces to be painted with TSP or with a weak solution of bleach and water to ensure a clean surface. Mask off wood trim and electrical outlets with masking tape. Neatly paint walls, and don’t forget the wall behind the fixtures! I once was so proud of my finished bathroom! That is, until a guest said, ‘You forgot to finish painting!’ and by then, I had dumped the remaining paint in the recycle center. Ugh! Trying to match after the fact was difficult, to say the least!
While the paint dries, go shopping for your accessories and finishing touches. A lighthouse wastebasket, a few shells (a large flat shell makes a great soap dish!), a toothbrush holder, a new nautical themed shower curtain, and a tall, clear glass vase with a wide opening. Many dollar stores have terrific nautical theme accessories, and the best part is, dollar stores usually charge only a dollar per item. So, fill the little handbasket with all the cute nautical items you like, and keep the change.
I like to select colored flat glass marbles to accessorize and decorate theme rooms. Most craft stores sell them in 1 or 2 pound bags. I chose blues, greens and ‘sand’ colored marbles for my nautical theme bathroom, but you should select the colors you enjoy the most. Michael’s (the craft store) has shaped glass marbles that come in a variety of designs, and I chose shell shapes in a beautiful amber color to go along with the flat marbles and up the ante on the whole nautical theme look.
At the craft store, you can also pick up inexpensive picture frames, a small skein of mini rope, a tall wide mouth clear glass vase, and other cool nautical themed d©cor items. Now, home to a nautical theme bathroom, all freshly painted and ready to add the final touches.
Attach a decorative glass marble trim to your mirrors and counter backsplash ledge, using the silicon ‘glue’. This makes removing the dÃ?©cor easy, when you decide to change your theme and your color choices. While you have the silicon glue out and open, use it to decorate your nautical theme with rope-wrapped pictures frames. Simply remove the glass and mats from the frames, attach the first loop on the back of the frame and then wrap until the entire frame is covered, then seal the finish end of the rope also on the back side of the frame. Print our colorful or neutral shells, seagulls, and ships or lighthouses on your computer printer, and seal them well with sealer, available at any craft store or hardware store. Hang the finished pictures on the walls. If you want to, you can pick out an easy to install vinyl squares floor tile in a sand or ‘dune’ color. It’s a nice touch! Done.
The last step to creating an enchanting nautical themed bathroom is to hang your shower curtain, place your accessories around, hang fresh complimentary colored towels, and step back for a full view of your great accomplishment! Ahoy and Enjoy!
