Decorating with Airplanes in a Little Boy’s Bedroom
Paint the Walls
Start with the walls. Painting will create a clean canvas for you to work on. Take inspiration from your airplane theme and paint the walls a great sky blue color. Blue is a great color for any dÃ?©cor in a boy’s room. Other inspirations could be the airplanes themselves. Cool gray walls with red and blue pin striping like is found on many model airplanes add great visual interest.
If you have a little more time why not incorporate a sky mural on the ceiling. Your child love lying in bed staring up at the airplanes hanging from the sky ceiling. To paint a sky ceiling start out with a sky blue color. Roll this on as you normally would and allow it to dry. Then use sponges and rags dipped in white paint to create clouds. This is the perfect backdrop for model airplanes and very easy and affordable to do.
Airplane Bedding Sources
Next, change the bedding. Incorporating airplanes in your boy’s bedroom can be quickly accomplished with this one step alone. There are many great sources for airplane bedding perfect for your little boy’s bedroom.
www.dinosociety.org, www.goodnightsleeptight, www.themagicalrockinghorse.com, www.target.com, and www.walmart.com all have great options for airplane inspired bedding perfect for any little boys room.
If you can’t find airplane bedding why not create your own? Purchase a solid colored bed spread in a gray or green color. Use fabric paint, puff paint, and other fun accessories to paint on and create you own runways, airports, airplanes, and more. Create an interactive bedding perfect for playtime! Make sure you allow all paints to dry over night before making the bed. I also recommend washing the airplane dÃ?©cor bed spread before you paint it with fabric paint.
Airplane Accessory and Kit Sources
You can’t leave out the airplanes in this bedroom dÃ?©cor project for your little boy. You can find many sources online for great authentic airplanes as well as great kits for building your own airplanes. Include the kids in this bedroom dÃ?©cor project and build some airplanes from kits. www.rudystoys.com, www.modelaces.com, and www.megahobby.com are all great online sources for airplane kits.
Localy you can find model airplane kits at Micahels Arts and Crafts and Hobby Lobby. I have even seen airplane kits in the toy section at Walmart and Target. They range in pric efomr as low as $7 all the way up to $30.
After you build the airplanes you can display them on shelving or hang from the ceiling. You can hang airplanes form the ceiling by screwing in hooks to the ceiling. Use clear fishing wire to hang the airplanes and they will look like they are truly suspended on their own in the air. If you and your boy build a truly intricate airplane for the d©cor why not display it in a plexi glass box and make it a real collectable. If you have a small child that may pick up model airplanes and put them in their mouth use clear epoxy glue to affix them to the shelving in their bedroom. This way they can look at, but not eat the airplanes in their fun new bedroom decor.
I hope these ideas have helped you create an airplanes bedroom d©cor for the boys in your life!
