Defensive Driving Schools in San Antonio, Texas
Drivers must send a request to the San Antonio Municipal Court stating that they would like to take this course. This request must be in person or by mail; it cannot be done via the internet. Juvenile violators under 17 and their parent or guardian have to appear in open court.
Drivers are eligible for classes in a defensive driving school in San Antonio,Texas if the violation is not for speeding over 23 miles per hour over the posted speed limit or if the violation is not for passing a stopped school bus. Other violations that keep the driver from taking these classes are a moving violation in a construction zone with workers present or a violation committed while operating a commercial vehicle.
When requesting permission to attend a defensive driving school through the mail, the driver must submit a letter requesting permission to attend a defensive driving school, with reference to the ticket number, or download a copy of a defensive driving school request form, fill it out and mail it back or hand deliver it to the court. The driver also needs to send a photocopy of their Texas Liability Insurance. This proof of insurance must either, be in the violators name or prove that they are a policy member. The last item the driver needs to include is a check or money order in the amount of the fine charged for the violation, payable to the city of San Antonio, Texas. If a warrant has been issued, additional fees will apply.
If the violators request to attend a defensive driving school is approved, the violator will receive a confirmation letter. This confirmation letter contains any further instructions for completing the requirements set by the court. Violators should not attend defensive driving school until they have received their approval letter from the court.
After receiving the letter of approval from the court, the driver can take the course at a defensive driving school. In order to enroll in one of these courses drivers will need to bring a valid drivers license, their letter of approval from the court and proof of insurance. Drivers must not have taken any defensive driving course during the past 12 months and cannot be currently taking a defensive driving course for another violation in the state.
