The summer is never ending in this Caribbean rain forest filled with lush almond trees, palms, hundreds of species of ferns and hint of tropical flowers in the air. Jamaica is truly a Caribbean jewel. Most people have heard of or even visited Jamaica’s “big three” Montego Bay, Negril or its capitol Kingston. Finally, an evening trip not to be missed if you find yourself in the beautiful part of the world: a dip in the Luminous Lagoon. The Luminous Lagoon is a natural phenomenon of microscopic organisms that live in the brackish water at the mouth of the Martha Brea River as it meets the Caribbean Sea. These organisms illuminate when the water is disturbed causing an incredible greenish glow as boats travel through the area or when travelers stop to swim in the lagoon.
