Dorm Room Decoration Ideas: Decorate with Pictures and Memories
What many new college students need to realize though is that they are going to be sharing the dorm room. If both roommates have their own brilliant yet different decorating plans, then this can become somewhat of a disaster as roommates begin to dislike each other right away. I have seen disagreements over decorating have two roommates hate each other before, so I am not making this up.
When planning your dorm room decorations, keep in mind that you will have a roommate. Make things simple and easy. Most schools have a huge list of rules they give you about decorating when you move in, so that can ruin a lot of plans as well. Another thing that a lot of students forget is how small most dorm rooms are. They take a ton of stuff to decorate, and they end up having to send a bunch back home or having to shove it under their bed because there just isn’t room for it.
The absolute easiest way to decorate is to fill your side of the room with pictures of you and your friends from home. It is always a nice reminder of old friends to see their picture up on the wall. The pictures bring back tons of good memories especially if it was a hard day of classes or somewhere along those lines. Not only that, but pictures of your old friends from home can start some new friendships at college. Conversations start about memories you had back at home with your friends, and new friendships begin by telling stories.
While taking a lot of pictures of friends from home to college is great, make sure to leave room up on the wall for new pictures of newer memories with your college friends. It can help bring a nice balance to the new direction your life is heading. Taking anything to college that brings back good memories is the key to decorating a dorm room.
