An easy way to dress up your home for Valentine’s Day is by changing out the lampshade on a favorite lamp. This adorable pink striped lampshade project is festive and very inexpensive to create!

For this project, you will need:

– One paper lampshade

– Pencil

– Ruler

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ballet Slipper

– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon

– Krylon Short Cuts Brush on Paint in Hot Pink

– Cardstock

– Masking tape

– 1/2 inch wide pink satin ribbon

– Scissors

– Hot glue gun and glue sticks

– Newspaper or large drop cloth (plastic or fabric)

Before starting your lampshade project, cover your work area with a few sheets of old newspaper or a large plastic or fabric drop cloth. Set the paper lampshade flat on your work area. Spray the lampshade with an even and light coating of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Allow the shade to dry for three to five hours before proceeding. Paint the shade with an even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Ballet Slipper. Wait two hours before adding a second layer of pink paint. Let the lampshade dry overnight.

With a pencil and a ruler, mark several different vertical stripes on the lampshade. Vary the space between lines for a unique look. Apply masking tape securely onto the lampshade along these vertical lines. Leave the spaces between the lines uncovered. Spray the exposed areas of the lampshade with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Watermelon. Let the lampshade dry for two hours before adding a second coat. Dry for an additional three to four hours before removing the masking tape. On either side of the watermelon colored paint stripes, add smaller stripes with Krylon Short Cuts Brush on Paint in Hot Pink. Dry overnight.

Measure and cut two lengths of 1/2 inch wide pink satin ribbon. Wrap one length horizontally on the top of the lampshade. Wrap the second stain ribbon length around the horizontal bottom of the lampshade. Secure the ribbon in place with a line of hot glue. Let the glue cool fully before installing on your favorite lamp.

TIP: Looking for even more Valentine’s Day cheer for your lampshade? Consider adding additional details. Hearts can be drawn on the shade with pink paint. Add pink plastic gems for a glamour appeal. Or, add various sized pink buttons with a hot glue gun for a county chic design. Use your imagination to create a festive lampshade perfect for your dÃ?©cor!
