Duties of the Bridesmaid

Bridesmaid is one of the most important duties one can have as a member of the wedding party. Many times, the bride has chosen you as one of her bridal attendants because of the bond you share. The bride needs your support during the planning process before the wedding and on the big day itself. Here are some of the things you can do to help the bride enjoy the whole wedding experience.

Before the Wedding Day

Prior to the wedding day, there is plenty for a bridesmaid to do, especially if she lives close to the bride. Every bridesmaid enjoys assisting the Maid of Honor as she plans the bridal shower and the bachelorette party, and this is a great way to show your affection for the bride. However, there are a few other duties for the bridesmaid to help with.

One of the main things to remember about being a bridesmaid prior to the wedding is to be as helpful and supportive as possible. The bride may need help choosing decorations, or may ask for assistance in picking out bridesmaid dresses. Not only can you offer your opinion in these matters, but you can also help by making sure you are on time to all of your bridesmaid dress fittings, as well as ensuring that you acquire your dress in a timely manner. If the groom does not want to help pick out gifts for the registry, offer to accompany the bride. She will appreciate your help, and enjoy the time you spend together.

Be communicative with other guests. If a bridesmaid makes an effort to be informed, family and friends of the couple will know they can come to her with questions, rather than pester the bride and groom. Also, if there is a rehearsal, the bridesmaid should attend on time and offer to help tie up any loose ends. If you helped with the seating arrangement, make sure to save a copy and bring it with you, so that if the bride forgets her copy, you will be prepared.

On the Wedding Day

Everyone knows the bridesmaids accompany the bride down the aisle, but there is more you can do to ensure that the day runs smoothly, and that the bride feels less stress and anxiety. One of those things is to help the bride with her dress, hair and makeup. During this time, be available to get food, water or something the bride forgot. If each bridesmaid is willing to help with little errands, everything will be done faster and more efficiently.

Make sure you have everything you need, including the bridesmaid dress and accessories. And be on time. This is crucial. The bride has many things to worry about, and her bridal attendants should not be any of them. Additionally, if you arrive before time, you can socialize with guests and help the ushers seat them if necessary. You can also look around to make sure everything seems to be in order. Smoothing little bumps before they become big can be helpful.

At the reception, a single bridesmaid should mingle and try to catch the bouquet. If you bring a partner, dance and enjoy yourself. This will encourage others to do the same, and the bride and groom won’t feel as though no one is enjoying the party.

The bridesmaid should above all be supportive and helpful. She should offer her services throughout the planning and execution of the wedding day, and help the bride have a truly magical day.
